hi people.
just a quick question, had to take my 2 x 12" subs out as wife had a baby  but thing is now there aint no bass in my car  , iv got JBLs 2way in front and JBL comps in back, was thinking could i just put some sound proofing in where the speakers are? or is there more to it to get more bass out of them? dont know the model of the speakers, sorry!
HU is Alpine CDE-9850Ri
thanks.
p.s the car is a mk3 gti

anyone?
:undecided:

Soundproofing only really acts on keeping sound from inside the car inside, and keeping outside noise outside.
It'll provide a richer sound but nothing like a sub, at all. You'll need to look into getting a shallow/slim subwoofer, or even do a side arch build.
-
Looks like you might benefit from this then mate.

Sub I linked above is small mate, fits under the front seat!

tbh i dont want to be spending much i was just thinking dynamat it (thats what i ment in 1st post) i got alot of money thats gota go out so need to watch the pennys!
-
Dynamatting isn't going to solve your problem buddy, you're either gonna have to deal with a lack of bass or save for a little sub.
-
Indeed. Sound proofing seems REALLY expensive as well :undecided:
-
look at getting the smaller sub as was posted. look into either a arch mount or a small mount that will mount into the floor and all. there isnt anything you can do to car other than maybe a speaker amp and that will only do so much. but as they have been saying look into getting a smaller mount its going to be easier than anything and not to expensive. dynamat will cost more in the end.
-
i where thinking of just dynamatting the speaker pods (where the speakers sit into) well i got abit more bass out the speakers by adjusting the hertz and what not, what about putting foam behind the speakers?
-
I put Dynamat on my doorcards, and too be honest, it didn't really make an improvement.
-
well i got the idea from my mission speakers think about it, its jut a woofer and tweeter, (i know its a woofer) the missions have foam/wool in them and they sound bassy so i thought hmmm why not dynamat the insides of the speaker pods (in the door cards) and add some foam/wool stuffing should get better bass but you never know. shady have you dynamatted the speaker pods in the door cards?
-
I didn't do the pods but I did the whole door-card, including around the speaker slot. It stopped some vibration I was getting but that's about it.
In fairness my components up front are purely for HPF, bass is handled by the sub in the boot, however I've never set up my set up to allow the components to be used in any other way...(I don't want to either.)
-
well seeing as i'm a pikey sod...
i sound deadened mine and the wifes yaris quite a bit  i used a couple of packs of dynamat, but was gonna work out massivley expensive, so i tried roof flashing on a roll, and its cheap as chips, tenner for 10m x 300mm i think? from wickes, bq etc. Banged in 2 or 3 rolls in each of the doors, and a 30 quid roll of cheap sound deadening. and it improved the bass quite a bit, nothing like a sub but improved what i had no end (dls coaxs in the dash, alpine coaxes in the doors)
then i went a bit crazy with it...
-
tg1- thanks for that mate, what is it made out of?
-
umm, tar and a silver backing. its waterproof also
think its about 90 something percent the same as edead - and smells less bad.
Although you might want the doors and windows open for a good few hours
i used something like this, different brand though
