Title: Extras or mileage?
Post by: Keano on 13 June 2010, 21:30
Hey guys,

This is my first appearance from hiding in the shadows.

Im currently after a golf gti with about £13k to spend.

Now the question i pose is:

Would you rather have lower mileage and poor-ish spec (NEED the 18's) OR would you have a higer mileage car with all the bits and bobs?

Cheers guys, I look forward to your responses :)

Nick

Well i got a 2005 DSG 3 Door in Black with 83,000 Miles on, Full VW History, All motorway miles for £8500.00. Mine had 18" Monza's, Full MFD Display, multi function steering wheel, Cloth...

Imho, I made the right choice and I looked at about 6 DSG Golfs, and this was the best car buy far.

Depends on the condition of the car. Has it been well looked after, FVWSH etc. How much do you want the extras?   :undecided:

I went for a fully loaded 76,000 mile 2005 DSG for £11k. Check for a service history, and check what was done and when. I'd have regretted spending less on a worse spec car. With £13k to spend you'll have a reasonable choice of the higher spec cars if mileage doesn't bother you, or choose a more standard car that's newer.

if you go for the poorer spec, you can potentially retro fit some upgrades later, such as leather interior, cruise control, centre console, better stereo, 18 inch wheels.

A newer, lower mileage poverty spec car will be worth slightly more than an older high spec car - both in the same condition. Go for the newest you can afford, but my advice would be to stretch the budget and go for an Edition 30, they will hold their money better and will have some extra's on it...like half leather heated seats with lumbar support, 18" wheels, colour coded, dark smoked rear lenses, extra 30bhp through a larger turbo with more tuning potential (if you want to tune) etc.
