just drove to the pub. put windscreen washers on clear windscrenthen smoke started cuming up from the top of the steering wheel, then a burning smell. stopped at traffic lights ready to pull over but then it stopped. lasted about a minute. any ideas?

most likely your MFA stalk on its way out
-
Not just mine then.. mine hasn't done it for ages though
-
As Kells said will be a stalk on its way out.
-
+1 happened to me, shat my pants!!!

MFA is fine; i use that quite alot no problems. My wipers all work fine. Its just when i did the washers which i havent used in quite a while. It was obviously some insulation on the wire burning away which ofcourse is worrying in itself! When i get chance i will take it apart and have a look. It was coming up from the hazard switch area.
Ill just keep clear of using the washers until i find out for sure, hopefully i should be getting my company car this week so ill get chance to dismantly it all.

Lol, this happened to mine about 8 months ago, mfa is fine but the wiper function is a bit stiff
-
when i say mfa, i mean the whole stalk mech, both sides as its all 1 part. mine must have had a new one in its life as theirs a bill for one in the paperwork
-
Being nosey, how much was it?
-
it was bought second hand for i think it was £50 notes (not got the paperwork in front of me), although it was quite a fair few years ago and they seem to sell for half that these days (just make sure all the white markings are not worn off as iv seen a few like that)

Oh :( Had a little smidgen if smoke on mine last month, just thought it was a bit of dust or something got into the steering mech and burnt away :(
I love my MFA i hope it doesnt break!!
-
im just hoping it doesnt burst into flames! something was deffinatly burning and from the smell of it its was probably the wiring insulation. Not got a problem with how any of it functions, but i may wash the windscreen by hand up untill i get the chance to investigate!

Ha sounds like the safest bet mate ;)
Who needs mechanical window wipers when you have a wife/girlfriend anyway
