Title: Fitting GTI bumpers to a GT TDI
Post by: grebow on 07 June 2010, 19:25
i have just fitted GTI bumpers to my MK6 GT TDI. I have 2 problems,
1: the front fog light wiring connector is different so i cannot connect up the front fogs as of yet. does anyone know where i could get a converter to do this or has anyone done it before?
2: i need to conver the rear exhaust to a twin tailpipe. has anyone done this before or can anyone give me any info on how to do it best or somewhere that could do it for me in the north west area.

Thanks

would it not have been better perhaps to buy GTD bumpers?

Are they different??

yeah the GTD rear bumper as a single outlet at the side (similar to a mk5 gti exhaust) for the mk6 gti the exhaust splits with one pipe at each side.

Sorry, of course it is. I was just thinking about the front when you typed that. It would have made sense to use the GTD one but it sounds like the OP wants to turn his into a GTI lookalikey

A dinger I would guess is a damaged car?  so I would also guess he means parts off a damaged car?

Ill see what plug is on the GTI and your GT and you may be able to just buy the plugs from the dealer and change them over to fit your new fogs.

Ill get the part number in a minute

Buy 2 of these from your dealer 3D0 941 165A and replace the plugs that are on your original fog wiring,  they will then just plug straight in.

I bought the bumpers off a friend of a friend, seemed a good deal so i thought id stick them on my car to jazz it up a bit.

thanks for the help with the part numbers. i have been trying to find the correct connector all day at various electrical companies with no joy.

the guy at my local VW dealer said that i would have to buy the full loom if i wanted the connectors!!

once again, thanks for the great help!!

im feeling pretty proud now to be honest. a bit more work and expense than i first imagined and at the moment im driving round with the rear valance off so the fumes dont come into the car but its looking good.

i would buy a GTI  but i do 30k miles a year and it would be a shame to run it into the ground like that!! would cost me double in fuel aswell!!

I still can't find anything I like more than the monzas except Neils' and to be honest I don't think they would suit Bonnie with her being black.

Anyway with the new LEDs and RNS510 I can't afford anymore mods tho I would love the reversing camera

This looks cool. Front bumper looks like it needs a few tweaks to get it to line up perfect though.

Hi, I know this is an old post, but been looking all over the place for a GTD front bumper to put on my GT TDI. VW themselves say one simply wouldn't fit. And the aftermarket ones i find are only for TDI models...  is there really that much of a difference on the mountings?
Seen a bumper kit on eBay with all the fog fixings etc, they say there's a 'high chance' that it would fit on my car...

How much hassle was it to fit the bumpers on yours grebow? not particularly fussed about changing the rear at the minute, would want a beef'd up exhaust before i do that. Its all because some kind person shunted my car and left without a trace...
