Title: MK1 CAB parts
Post by: Flidster_uk on 16 December 2004, 18:59
Out of shear boredom at lunchtimes I have made a series of parts for a MK1 Cab. I don't know if anyone is interested in any, dump some on ebay I wouldn't ask alot, cost of materials and labour i certainly wouldn't charge what they do in shops.

Anyway the parts have been made through CAD on a lathe and miller using plastic obtained from VW's in a scrapyard so the plastic texture matches the rest of the car. These parts are made to near industry standard.

1. Rear hatch boot cards, on the rear of the boot panel there are four holes part of the boot skin and only one cover for the lock in the middle. These new ones are plastic and fit the holes you either glue them or use velcro, covers any mess if you have waxoiled the panel inside. two designs of these as one of the designs houses another light.

2. Hand brake handle, cylindrical in design with an angle at the front like the old one, has the grooves in it and slightly larger in diameter this is an interference fit so no screws needed.

3. Electric window panel switch for 4 windows and electric roof. On the later cab's instead of the VDO guages there was a panel which held three buttons and an alarm light. The new panel is very similar to the old one but houses 5 switches, the switches are sunk in like the original and the plastic is of the same texture. These take a while to make but look as close to the original as you can get when you obtain the right switches either from a passat, corrado etc.

4. caps for the front of the grills. Made these some time ago seen alot of cabs missing these caps cover the screws.

5. mirror adjusters, have about three designs of these.

6. Gearlever collar, this enables the leather gaiter to sit around the gear stick without moving like most modern cars also covers the black rubber you sometimes still see if you add a golfball gear knob.

7. VDO gauge surrounds, not sure if you can obtain these still, within reason these are easy to do either in the centre console or the ashtray. Raised dials or sunken.

The only problem with some of these items is that i cant always create the original fixings on the back as alot of the plastic parts were injection moulded so you either have to glue them or create a fixing device.

if you have access to this kind of machinery i can send you the template files and G&M codes run them off yourself.

I'll dump some photos up.

Hiya matey, been a while since you've been about but welcome back. I might be interested in the grill screw covers as I had one missing so took the other one off to even them up and I might be interested in the rear hatch boot cards too, some pics would be cool.

hello

I aint been on for a fair while due to the ball ache of work at the moment.

I've uploaded the rear hatch boot cards, won't be able to make them until after christmas due to school breaking up tomorrow and not being able to obtain more plastic from the scrapyard till sunday.

The grill screw caps i'll draw a design up for the machine to make as the ones i did i used a manual lathe. There should be a photo of that on 8valvesgood image library.
