Soooo my brakes are quite sh!t, and I've decided to get new discs and pads.
Did some searching here and there, but couldn't find exactly what I'm looking for.
Firstly, are there any particular brands you would recommend? I'm assuming Eicher stuff is crap, since it's really cheap? (had a look on ECP). What about PAGID? lol, never heard of them...
Then, where should I buy all the stuff from? eBay, ECP, GSF?
Finally, is there any point of getting drilled/grooved discs and fancy green stuff pads?

just put mintex pads and discs on mine, very happy with them

Are the pads same size for all mk3's? And what size discs do I need? 239mm?

I ran 256mm ate powerdiscs and std pads on my old 1.8.....both from ecp

I had Jurid or Pagid, one of them, from ECP together with normal ATE discs on my 1.8 GL. Squeaked like a btch. Not recommended

Do I need to change anything to run 256mm? Standard ones are 239mm...
And should I get solid or vented?
Thanks Leon :) So ATE stuff seems good?
-
you need like for like, any bigger wont fit unless you change the calipers
id just get mintex pads and mintex discs for it, direct replacements, think you can even get them on ebay

Just driving down a road without my foot on the brake pedal would cause squeaking! Definately the pad in the carrier was to blame. ATE make BMW components so I thought the combination would be right as it was very cheap from ECP, but you get what you pay for.
Go with Mintex :) or get VW stuff if you know someone who can get you discount...

I just fitted Pagid front discs on my 8v, good discs good price but be careful buying from ECP as i had to spend a good while convincing them gti's were 5 stud and not 256mm........
Check their site it specs 4 stud 256mm discs for 8v gti

Yeah, their site is quite confusing.
I still don't get it, which Golf's came with 256mm discs? As standards are all 239mm, aren't they? GTI's 280 and 288, and VR6 don't remember, lol...
-
Mk2 GtI's had 256mm discs not sure what the lower Mk3 models had try Vagcat

My brakes were crap. Stock pads put in and after adjusting the rear brakes up the brakes in general are so much sharper and less travel!

VR6 is exactly smae as GTI's 288's, only early GTIs had 280's

Alright, I'm clear with that :)
Going to order Mintex pads and Mintex solid 239mm discs. Thanks mate.
