My girlfriend is on the lookout for her first car and has set her heart on a Lupo. I don't really know much about them other than I've heard the pedal boxes are a weak point. She's got a budget of around 2-2.5k for a good one; preferably a 1.4. Just trying to do some homework.
Anyone know much about them or own one?

I know a girl that has one and she had a lot of trouble with the icv.
The way I see it is it's a cheap budget car, using cheap parts to make it. Still going to be better than any other small car of it's age though.

1.4 TDI all day long. 75bhp and 70mpg out of the box. A remap from Toph and it'll see 100bhp and see off Lupo GTI's. Super cheap insurance, £35 a year road tax if you get a post 2001 one and just damn cool.

Oh and the TDI uses the MKIV Golf gearbox and clutch so no gearbox problems or the dread clutch peddle snapping off.

I had a mk1 seat arosa (1998 s reg), picked it up for £650 and in my opinion was a seriously cool car especially when lowered and rimmed up. 1.4 petrol powerplant and loved every minute of it. road going go-kart

Thanks for the feedback. That diesel tax bracket sounds promising! I think she ideally wants a petrol though. Looking at the specs for the 1.4 sport, it seems pretty nippy to be fair! Prices just seem to vary so much :undecided:

Try a derv before ruling it out, my Polo is essentially the same car just longer and heavier and it's the cheapest to run car I've ever had but it's quite a hoot as well. Even has quite a cool growl being a 3 pot.

In her heart of hearts I think she wants a blue 1.4 sport but may have to look into a diesel. I've tried persuading on the Arosa as they are cheaper, but that's a no go due to it not having, and I quote, 'a cute face'.
Horney, which mk Polo is that?
-
Mrs Horney is the same, arosa pants Lupo good cause it's cute although she really wants a GTI one.
My Polo is a 6N2 (year 2000), there's a thread in Dub Rides.
