Title: LED rear lights and DRLs
Post by: Ess_Three on 04 June 2010, 16:27
Here's an odd thing:

Std Xenons + lights in 'auto' + dayight = front Xenons on and rear lights on all the time as DRLs.
Std Xenons + LED rears (Byte 18 set to 04 as per StevePs guide) + lights in 'auto' + daylight = front Xenons and no rear lights...
Turn the lights to either sidelights or main lights and the rears come on.

Odd...but better!
I never understood why the rear lights were on as DRLs.

Nice to know.
The reason in oem spec for the rears to be lit is because if you look at the address bytes used on the canbus system the xenons use a different one to the halogen lights. (Byte 11 compared to byte 15) DRLs are activated on the halogens by using a seperate bit in byte 15 as they setup as an extra light. The xenons don't have this option. They do have the option as does the halogens of using the foglights as DRLs.
I don't know why the LEDs are like this yet as i have not had time to look over the autoscans of two identical spec cars one with factory LEDs and one without.

I will have an autoscan of a car with factory LEDs with an identical factory electronics spec to mine in the next day or so

So maybe this will shed some light on this.
