Right feeling a bit sorry for myself, have my first track day on Sunday and MOT was supposed to be tomorrow.
Speedo cable snapped on Sunday passed there, replaced on Tuesday due to bank hol. Yay.
Discovered wipers weren't working nor blower, boo.
Fixed wipers with replacement relay 18 (cheers RJ) yay.
Blower motor fried, boo.
Brake fluid low. Bought new pads, yay.
Wasn't the brake pads, twas the fubarred master cylinder that is leaking all down my bulkhead and stripped the paint off as it went   boo
Sprayed in the face with brake fluid that flicked up when I pulled off reservoir.
Can't MOT as no brakes.
Looking decidedly unlikely to get to my track day.
So fooked off I could torch it. Know I'll feel better when it's sorted but jeeze, right now I HATE may car and it seems the feeling is mutual.
Any one know if a 23mm master cylinder with 13mm unions will fit mk2? Think I have one but not sure where... :undecided:

This sounds like the mk4 section at the moment, hope you get it all sorted, i have passenger window held up with gaffer tape at the moment till i get the parts tomorrow.

Hmmmn, seems I'm not alone. Cheers for the replys guys.
Had a cup of coffee and a think.
I'm now researching fitting the 23mm M/c as I defo bought one, just have to find it. Could be anywhere amongst the three lockups
Put it away safely as dismantled car I was keeping it in, just need to figure out how to fit it to existing pipes/ replace rotten ones. Find somewhere that sells 13mm brake pipe attachments.
Also need to find a brake pipe spanner.
Also I'm working from 8am to 10pm tommorow so leaves me Saturday to get back in the game.
Never simple is it?

Well I have decided mine likes me I think. Sailed through the MOT today with just a couple of advisories that I can do myself in time. Alls happy at the moment with the Golf....but for how long ??

Right, I was supposed to be going to my time trial today but instead I'm writing this which gives you an indication of how well my Saturday went.
I had noticed that my master cylinder was copulated so ordered a new one, paid extra for it to arrive on Saturday, didn't get here till 215pm! Dashed about getting brake pipes, flaring kit, connectors etc
Stripped out old M/c pipes running between t piece and M/c, made up new pipes, fitted new M/c and got it all nipped up again.
Bearing in mind I'd never done any of this before I was doing ok. However I went to bleed the system and over tightened the rear bleed nipple f**kulating the threads... I was a bit annoyed with myself. My Old Boy, who was helping, came away with a cracker after I did it, "you only need to that up then a quarter turn". Information that would have been good 10mins ago..
Mate Phil came through as he nipped up with a replacement nipple, continued to bleed the system, turns out that new nipple won't seal caliper and was peeing brake fluid on drive. Phil also lent me a new set of calipers he had in the garage so may change rear caliper later to get MOT.
Question, would it be safe to enlarge/tap the bleed nipple hole and seal it with a bolt? Or will I need to stump up for a new caliper?
This is the edited highlights, suffice to say I gave my best but was thwarted at the last. Didn't make it to the meet/ time trial as I finally gave up at midnight on Sat.

Yis. Spent a small fortune on brakes parts & calipers & consumables just for the brakes, still need a new rear hose, another Drop link anti roll bar, another rear caliper for the otherside as the boot is missing from round the piston.
along with a full service, cam belt change, air con regas, turbo cleaned...
