just wondering if anyone else has had this. thought it might have been the float unit/pump (whichever it is) in the boot, but couldnt smell anything around that area when i took the floor mat up :undecided:
couldnt see any obvious leaks from underneath (tank, pipework etc) or under bonnet, so im stumped.
would like to sort this out as soon as poss, due to the fact i dont want all my money ending up in tony and gordons pocket, as they have enough of it already!!
any advice would be much appreciated ?

is the smell definitely coming from that end of the car?
have you checked the fuel lines under the hood?

aye. no obvious leaks from fuel rail, lines, injector seals etc...i've tried it running, and just with the ignition on so the system is pressurised. still no sign

I had a problem when I used to have a 92 Mk3 . The problem there was that just at the rear engine where the fuel pipe goes into the engine the old pipe had been on there for so long that it had become rigid.
It's didn't always leak but only when I drove it for a while or if I drove it faster with higher revs.
I couldnt find the problem for ages until one day I put my hand round the back of the engine and felt it wet from around the edges.
The way to get around this problem if it is that is to cut the pipe at the end and then reseal it. The smell used to come into the car and was very strong.

The other thing to check is the crankcase breather hoses. If one is split them you would smell petrol.
