I have a mate who is interested in buying a Mk4
I STOOOOOPIDLY sent him here to have a look about
theres a LOT of issues of late with your 4s - somewhat off putting to prospective buyers infact, as i have now found out.
But - do you think your issues are because you have Modified your Golf ? Would you be having your troubles if it was standard ?
now be honest
thanks in advance
-
the standard ones have the same issues, you just don't notice them because the engines are always good enough to make bang on standard power figures even with ropey bits hanging off them
-
Funny i was thinking the same              :lipsrsealed:

I'll keep quiet :lipsrsealed:

I had problems from about a month after I bought it, but the car is 9 years old and EVERYTHING on it was factory fitted, one owner 36K, these things that do go wrong, hoses splitting, DV diaphragm perforated etc... are just degredation.
Mechanically (Touch wood) the car is fine, and now that hoses and stuff have been replaced it should last another 9 years, no?
Cant speak about mapped, thats the aim, but I wanted to sort all the "weak spots" before giving her more oooomph!
She will be mapped soon and I have no doubt that I will be posting my issues that arise (if any ) on here.

140K mapped since 68k never had a boost leak - original MAF , turbo and all four coilpacks
Yeah yeah i know about the water pump    :lipsrsealed:

I find I've encountered wear and tear items more than actual mechanical failures
The MK4 is now at a price level where it is more accessible to a greater range of people and its here that lies the problem
Boost leaks, water pump failures, windows dropping etc occur on standard MK4's; modifying just amplifies these problems but sadly people are rather ignorant when it comes to this
They aren't aware that cars may and will have underlying issues and rather than seek to sort them, they quickly moan about the fact their car now won't work as they want it to
I moan about mine but equally I hope I don't appear to bury my head in the sand and instead look to seek advice of others in an effort to resolve my issues

my brother had the golf before me from 2000 and the only thing he changed was the front brake caliper as the piston had broke, i brought it from him in 2009 modified it and now have no end of problems, but i suppose you could say having remaps and suspention upgrades highlight weaker components
-
nope my golf was running sweet as a nut pretty much before i modifed though had no issues till i went mad on engine mods!
though have to say have had a replacement engine due to darn coilpacks an that was ona standard engine

I anit saying nothing :lipsrsealed:

I think it is just the age they are coming to and would imagine most cars of that era have the same sort of problems.
