Tried to find out what grade this is from my VW Parts Department. They could not help as it's not even shown on the container. All they could tell me is that it costs £15.12 per litre inc VAT and 2.3 litres is required.
Anybody know what this oil grade is, please?
Thanks.

Well the ones listed with a 2.3ltr capacity are
G 052 512 A2 at £7.58 per ltr.
G 052 171 A2 at £20.15 per ltr.

Are you changing the gear box oil then
-
How come you need Gbox oil already?

I am putting some Boron Motor Silk into the gearbox on Saturday. They might have to do a complete gear box oil change to put 230 ml of this in. Depends.
Just making Wolgang as smooth as possible before a re-map (?)
I'll just use the supplied oil by VW which is fully synthetic.

PS: Just found out from the Mk5 forum it is 75w-90.

Nice to see your looking after the GTI, who recomended these oil's before a re-map? just curious??

No one for the gearbox. Just me being a fiddler and being totally anal!
However, for the engine oil, I used Motul Specific (VAG) 5W30 504 00 which was recommended by 'Fuel Tech Experts'.

PS: The re-map is not for certain. Car is fast enough for the time being.

I don't want to change all the oil, but VW might have to as they have to pour in the specific amount of Boron Motor Silk (BMS). They need to remove approx 230 ml of oil and put in approx 230 ml of the BMS as replacement.
I'll leave this to them to do.

I'd save time and money by not bothering with any more of these boron silk products. The engine and gearbox oils used by VW already have very adequate anti-wear and extreme pressure additives in their formulation. I've previously looked into the claims made by the manufacturer (Advanced Lubrication Technologies) and they don't stand up to scrutiny I'm afraid.

I was kind of thinking along the same lines. If VW felt the gearbox oil needed to be of a certain type then I am sure it would have been used from new.

Am1w, stop mucking about and just get that thing Revo'd, then you'll realise what all the fuss is about.....

Yea I agree stop messin around just map it , you know want it

I am pacing myself and am trying not to suffer from premature boredom! Once I get all the bits and pieces put on and get the insurance sorted, I may probably re-map. At present, Wolfgang is as smooth and fast as I want him to be with no squeaks or rattles.
But a big thanks for guiding me in the right direction!
PS: I am not changing all the oil in the gearbox. Just removing 230 ml and replacing it with Boron Motor Silk. Loverly.
BTW, you lads make me feel like a naughty schoolboy!

Moved to Ed30 Gear Selector thread!

Well, I finally put some Boron Motor Silk gearbox additive in today. Oil was not changed, just some removed to be repalced with Boron Motor Silk.
VW West London discounted the labour rate. Nice of them. Great dealership.
How does the gearbox feel? Well ...... I'm not telling!
But I am very, very happy!
Wolfgang probably has the best non re-mapped GTi engine and definitely the best manual gearbox!
But obviously, I'm biased.
PS: I am not responding to any negative comments.
PPS: I might also have a rather fertile imagination!
