Hello people,
Back in the summer I was torn between getting rid of my Mk1 Cabrio or throwing money at it and keeping it peachy and more or less stock. Needless to say I'm keeping it! I've found loads of useful info on this site so thanks to all.
I've just picked up a new rot free drivers door, a new fusebox with relays, a new starter motor & solenoid, a twin headlight grill complete with spots, two virtually new headlights, the trim for the A frame and more importantly, four original 14" VW alloys with 3 90% good Michelin tires, all for the tidy sum of... ?215.
About the alloys; they are stock VW ones that were fitted to Sciroccos and Cabrios, they've got a silver rim and ring around the hub but the faces of the spokes are painted to match the body colour of the car, as is the centre section where the bolts go. It's a poor description but someone will know what I'm dribbling on about. I've just had them bead blasted back to bare metal and I can't make up my mind whether to have them powder coated silver or white to match the car. Any thoughts?
Also I want to lower it a fraction - any recommendations as to whats best to buy? Thanks guys

Hi mate, for the wheels I'd have to go silver I'm afraid and for the lowering bit the best choice these days seems to be a set of Eibach springs, some will say get coilovers but some say that the best setup is Eibach springs and Koni shocks, but this is supposed to be a good setup for performance as well as looks, I've also been told about some cheaper springs called Apex which are supposed to be ok and cheap, all depends on how much you want to spend really.

I personally think silver will set off the car nicely. They were white originally so I was toying with the idea of getting them back to stock but I always thought that white can look dirty in no time at all.
Just found out they are Scala Alloys btw.
If anyone is in or near Suffolk then a local company will bead blast, powder coat and laquer your alloys for around ?30 each which I thought was a steal. If you're interested they are BBCS in Beccles - 01502 717699.
So that's the alloys and lowering sorted, just after a new roof and rear window frame now....
