42 quid?
(sorry.... boring post......)
i filled my tank up (mk3 8v) when it was seriously empty the weekend before the weekend just gone.
i've done 1 round trip to glasgow(to see groove armada  ) 100 miles (keeping about 90-100). a round trip of 45 to go mountain biking yesterday. the rest is town driving. grand total at the moment --> 290  and needing to refill this evenin. so will probably get 300 miles out of 42 quid .. is this about the norm, not so bad, or pretty sh*t?
(done my calculations and i reckon i've managed about 26.3mpg over this last 10 days)
i'm (really) wanting to buy a VR6 but kinda put off by the thought of my lead weighted right foot being the bain of my bank balance... this kind of driving ^^^^ is about what i do on a regularly basis but i'm no wanting to be stopping off at esso every couple of days and filling up if you get my drift... if i cut off some of my right foot and go easy will my bank balance be able to afford it is my question... :undecided:
pretty undecided on this one..

I got a MK2 16V and i put ?43 of petrol in it and got bout 320miles out of it!
Not sure how good that is!!
-
from 10 quid i can get 100 miles from my 8v mk2. thats from an empty tank (not that i run on an empty tank )
-
I get 280 - 290 miles from about that much, and I drive like a nutter. Compared to a mk3 8v my car has almost double the power and weighs a fair bit more too, I think you may have some fuelling issues there matey
-
The most i've ever been able to squeeze into the VR6 is 37 pounds worth of normal unleaded. The furthest i've ever driven on a tank full is 260. But i've never tried to eek it out by driving economically, if i started doing that i'd buy a lupo diesel!
-
^^^thats cos you have a lardy mk4
for mine i get about 90miles from a tenner!! ?i do a blue and drive till the needle is just on the edge of the red
-
^ ya mean mk3? :P
i have no idea how many miles i can get out a tank... on the motorway when cruising around the limit and being careful i can get 36 to 38... in town sub 20...
-
And that aswell
Its all those safety features you lot eat!!! dont need those, nothing but a thin sheet if metel between me n the next car!! eeeeekkkkkk. . . . . . .

i think my high revving ((lack of power) and this is where the want for a vr6 comes in) is probably the cause of the empty fuel tank  (well i hope) if i did have a problem with fuel economy where would i start the elimnation.....
(i know its a gti so i shouldn't think about economy but.....)

I used to get (according to the MFA) 35-40mpg on the motorway in my Mk3 16v, if I was very careful and stuck it just below 70mph.
I used to do Nottingham to London for a weekend, (round trip about 260miles) for about 30quid.
In my Mk2 16v the same trip cost just about the same. Although that includes driving during the weekend.

umm you have a 60 litre tank toph :S we only have 52 litre tanks in our beloved mk2's
but i did newark meet in october i filled up before i left and it was 175 to newark and 150 back.(we missed the turn off and went past it :S) plus i drove around for a couple days before filling but norhing major just shops and back but it was on that red line got another maybe 20-30 miles out of it, when i filled up i put ?38 or optimax in at 85.5p. that equals about 44litres so i still have another 8 to go not that i wanted to risk driving on it a bit longer but that red mark is anoying cause you still have like 20 litres left when you hit it which is almost a third of a tank :S

?42 of petrol in a 60 litre tank is the same as ?42 of petrol in a 52 litre tank lol
-
ive never managed 42 in my tank :P
-
actually thinking about it how much is optimax up there its just over 86p here at the moment.
-
Don't know to be honest, I don't look anymore :embarassed:
-
must be nice not to have to pay for your own fuel :S
-
optimax is about the same up here around the .85 mark.. normal was .79 or thereabouts this morning for my fill up..
-
been to take the wife to work and optimax is 82.9p here
-
88p here
-
Costs me about ?30-?35 to fill up my mk3 when very low....reckon ?42 would get me about 330 miles (think thats what I spend a week going to and from work and thats 70 miles ish a day). Thats on a mixture of back roads, dual carriageway doing about 70 (as I pay for fuel!!) and then far too long stuck in town centre queues. MFA can read anywhere from 29mpg to 36mpg on a 35 mile run.
-
yer mines like that i seen it upto 40 on long runs but average in the city is from 10 -19 which is bad and i do about 200miles on a tank that way.
-
iv squeezed ?45 into a mk2 tank before, but the car did cut out rolling onto the forecourt
-
Better than when ed's cutoput just as we wnet round the roundabout by the m3, ended up getting stoned!!!
-
 remember that
-
ill tell you once i picked up me new dub next week, the slug is going!!!
-
200 miles out of the first half of the tank... 50 out of the 2nd half
-
Just did 176 miles out of 41 quid
Something not quite right there!
-
finally got me a gti, 40 quid got me 370miles and that included a flat out trip from newbury to milton keynes lol
-
u based in MK slug?
-
nah i had a ice hockey game there at the weekend,i never see no golfs while i was there thou
