Every time it rains my windows steam up .
I cant find any water leaks any where & was wondering
if any body had the same problem & how they
cured it .
-
have you cleaned the inside of the windscreen this year?
-
I keep my windows clean why???
Cant remember when i last used window cleaner tho
-
so they steam up when you have the heating on aswell????
Its probably cos your interior is slighyly damp, try looking at the seal behind the door card!!
-
If the seal is damaged can i purchase a new one from vag???
What other things could it be ??.
Could it be door or tailgate seals ,If it were these i should notice some water ingress but i cant find any .
Also is it possible my water drain pipes could be damaged / blocked .
-
find out if theres any moisture in your car before you change seals. if you smoke in your car you gotta clean inside the windows a lot more cos they get all greasy and mist up a lot quicker than clean windows, dunno if you do. is it just the windscreen that mists up? i bet it just needs a good clean
-
yeah i reccomend a damn good clean, i smoke so unfortunately mine mist up every couple of weeks :(
regards

could be coz your getting damp carpets, due to the door membranes failing. Common problem!
-
yeah but that usually makes all the front windows steam up too
-
nah, makes all ya windows steam up, makes driving kinda interesting whens its really cold and everything is frozen
-
There could be a v. small leak letting in a small amount throughout the year, which would cause the car to steam up during the cold spell. Just to be on the safe side, you can seal the outside of the windscreen, with a window sealant which is available from a ships' chandlers shop. Sorry but I can't remember the name of the stuff, but used it a few years ago. Its a clear liquid and a small bottle af about 100 ml, and only costs a few quid.
Sorry I can't be more specific
-
It also occurs that if you yourself are wet or damp when you get in, your windows will steam up.
-
so the conclusion from all this, is there is any damp objects in your car, your buggered!!!
-
Shall be looking at the seal on the doors tomorrow.
Is there anywhere else that water might get in through ,
may be in the boot area ??
still cant feel anything damp in the car
-
there is a thing that happens on my car where you start her up, turn on the heater and the windscreen mists up immediately. doesn't take long to clear.
can't see it being damp as the car is hardly used and is asleep in the garage all the time.
when i figure it out, i'll post it.
however, the old mk2 driver i had (bought it to get the Castellets off it) did have that problem and it was dampness that cause it. major leaks everywhere. car was scrapped soon after removing the wheels as it was obvious it had no floor.
-
I had this problem a few years ago, every winter the windows steamed up and no sign of any damp carpets or anything, it looked like i'd been up to something :with the missus !!  but summer came and all was fine again, then my internal heater motor packed in, so bought new one and found that the heater hose was a poor state, so replaced it, problem solved no more steamy windows  so I think it was a small leak in the hose that was causing all the steam

Welcome to winter in a Mk2. ... .. . .

Does it use any coolant ? If so you could have a leak in the matrix causing the hot water that leaks out to steam up the windows but check everything else first as you don't want to change a matrix unless you have to !
-
I second the heater matrix idea, had the same thing on my old one. Very very little loss of coolant but i got through loads antifog stuff before i worked it out!
-
First find your water leak! drain pipes on sunroof is a good place to start,
Clear out the plastic scuttle tray and surrounding areas of leaves etc, that may be blocking drain holes under the bonnet, lost grommets from bulkhead of car
Take off door cards, and check that the membranes are totally intacked, replace if not!
Check your cooling system is at the correct level, (heater matrix could be leaking into the car) the list really does go on.. happy hunting!

Good clean and rain-x anti fog?
-
I have used the anti fog and I thought it was great to begin with but I was driving home one night and the inside of the screen was just running with water and it was all I could do to stop it running down the back of the dash. I don't know why this happened although I have an idea that the anti fog sort of soaks up the condensation and after a while it just stopped working so I stopped using it and haven't had it happen again !
-
aye thats the problem i had , the rear passenger footwell used to get very wet when it rained overnight. it ended up being one of the pipes from the sunroof channels had blocked so the water overflowed the sunroof channels and ran down the inside of the body into the footwell , there was no signs of damp from the path it took from the roof down to the footwell as i think it ran down the inside of the plastic cover where the seatbelts are.

Is it not just the effect of your breath being warm and the windscreen being cold from the rain = it steams up!!!
Mine will start to steam up in the rain and I'm pretty sure there's no leak. Just put the fan on and open the window a little.
