Title: Tuning protection - Anyone got round it
Post by: Das Auto on 28 May 2010, 10:14
Unfortunately my cars ECU has the security lock so no tuning for me ( It was build week 34 btw and delivered on the 5th September  !!) Just wondered if anyone has found away around this yet ??

Speak to Revo - I think the tuning lock is only one step removed from being a myth. I was told this by a certain re-mapping outfit, starting with "S" and ending with "P". Don't know the exact build week of my Mk6 GTD, but it was in theory one of those with "tuning protection" (I collected it in early Dec as a new ex-showroom model, so poss a Sept/Oct build date too)

When I spoke to Revo about it, they laughed and said it's simply a case of not understanding how to get around it in the code - "it's mainstream Bosch electronics"

Revo also ensure that each time a new map is flashed from the handheld controller, that the flash-count in the ECU is reset - otherwise it's a dead giveaway that you've been remapping

HTH,

Ive spoken to revo and they say they are aware of the problem and the only way to get around it is to remove the ecu and flash it on the bench

Eh? Really?...hmm, curious, stand to be corrected then. Who was it at Revo you spoke with (not doubting, just v interested now in the finding out why there's a polar opposite conversation now being had)

Any details on how you can tell if your car is one of the one's Revo need to have "on the bench"?...is there a range of chassis numbers?

Funny, mine got REVO'd last week and i only got it 3 weeks ago now. Is it a GTI you've got or GTD, when i spoke to REVO they said it was morely the GTDs that were locked.

That's good news but seems to contradict numerous other reports that the flash count can't be written to!!!
