Title: pain in the a*se bonnet - any tips?
Post by: Cory on 23 May 2010, 15:52
hi guys.

so i have washed the mk2 using the 2 bucket method twice - just to make sure its nice n clean
then two coats of polish, and a coat of wax all over, and the car looks lovely, except the bonnet

im getting my hair off trying to clean the bonnet, as it just looks crap. im using the same technique but all
i am getting it smeary swirls.

possibly because it is too hot today?

The smears will be from the polish sitting in the imperfections in the paint i think.

If it's not applied correctly and removed correctly it will tend to cause them.

The heat probably isn't helping either, how long are you leaving it on for and are you applying by hand?

i am guessing the bonnet has had a respray at some point?

no respray on the car. am applying with an expensive cloth, one of the ones that keep in the nasty bits (cant remember the brand)
applying in circles, very lightly, and removing in the same way, with a clean cloth, of the same brand.

im no detailing expert, so go easy on me

apply your polish with an applicator pad using medium pressure and keep the pressure consistent as you work across the panel/area and use your mf cloth to remove, expensive cloths wont fix your problem dude.
