Hi guys just about to receive ownership of a Mk5 GTI DSG, But when i was looking for a car i asked a salesman at a VW dealership what ratio of DSG to manuals in the GTI do they sell and he told me about 50-50.Was just wondering how true this was, so was wondering if anyone could do a poll to see what the figures are, i would do it but have no idea how too.
Thanks in Advance

50/50 is a little over ambitious. Look in Autotrader and compare the cars for sale auto/manual and they are usually 8 to 1 in favour of manual, which is a good indicator.
-
I did think that myself

Could also be that us DSG owners don't want to part with our cars unlike our manual brethren...

^^^^ Dodgy clutches apparently In the manual cars

DSG all the way for me.

+ 1
-
its got to be the old school manual!!!!!!
Every time
-
Manual ftw, not keen on autos.

For what it's worth, I've owned both and deffinatly prefer the DSG. It's much more fun to drive with the paddle shifts. Easyier to drive in traffic and It's quicker to 0-60 too....

Correct choice

cant beat a wiggle of a stick in my car!!
havent tried DSG so cant comment, just a little worried if it went pop out of warranty.
-
+1 DSG.
Its great for lazy driving in traffic and the like but the paddles make for some fun driving on open roads and there is no topping the burp of a gear shift on the DSG either
-
You carnt beat a good old manual for when your giving the gti some pain  i know the paddle shift is nice but its just not the same experiance as changeing gear yourself and manuals also brings out the best drivers ... dsg is just lazy
-
old farts stuck in their old ways!
everyone knows DSG is the best
-
DSG is the BEST ..... for old man driveing...

you have more chance of cobwebs blocking up your intake manifolds than you do of gearbox failure with your mileage
-
DSG is great if you have any physical shortcomings in the leg area just like all auto boxes.
-
DSG is like Decimilisation, or Progress in Technology.
People just like what they know and dont like "Change".
So let me get this straight. Im accused of Being "old" cus i drive an Auto??
More like Grandad just wants to stick with what he knows best (in a manual)
...heads quickly out of thread to avoid "The Manual Brigade".
all in good humour

....... and cheekily into the Mk6 thread!

I had never driven an auto until I test drove a GTi DSG 4 weeks ago. Needless to say the car is sitting on my drive and frankly....i wouldn't go back to manual....
-
I was a die hard stick shifter (to coin the american phrase for manual gearboxes) and although it took a while to adapt to using the paddles, I would find it hard to go back now.
For those who have never driven DSG, make sure you stick it in manual mode and use the paddles - don;'t leave it in D (or even S) modes - big difference!
-
DSG is pretty good but I've only ever driven a DSG in an Audi TT around Silverstone in anger so wasnt a true "real world" test.
When I bought my MK5 (over 2 years ago now, how fast as that gone !!?) by budget didnt stretch to DSG :(
Still love the manual non the less, I dont know any better so :D ha jokes on you DSG boys . . . . . lol

a GTI as we all know is probably the origonal drivers car. "A proper car", its a classic in new & old variants. it needs driving with a proper gear box!!!
MANUAL, MANUAL, MANUAL!!!!!! (Chanting)
-
I've just bought a manual, i had a long test drive in it and the gearbox was brilliant, really tight and precise. I would have liked a DSG and i forced myself not to drive one whilst i was looking because the budget didn't stretch! If i'd have driven one, i would have wanted it! I'm really happy with the manual though!
That's coming from a 23 year old!

Have you driven a DSG?
The DSG will be the "classic" version in years to come
-
I'm looking into buying but unsure which 'box which to go for - i have the use of a work van so would be constantly changing between the two vehicles. Anybody find it strange going from the DSG to Manual daily? I'm thinking it would just be simper to stick with manual...
-
I drive DSG and manuals. It takes about 5 seconds to remember where you are with the extra pedal, so don't worry

I have Hurdy but although i agree that DSG is better than "traditional Auto" by a country mile it still doesnt feel like proper driving IMO
You cant beat the feeling of a gearstick in your hand lol  :lipsrsealed:
