Lately been hearing a slight knocking noise going over speed bumps coming from the rear suspension area.
Does anyone know what this could be? Brushes?
-
Sounds like bushes.
My sister had an identical problem in her TT with the speed bumps in our area and it was the bushes.
-
Does anyone know how much this would cost to fix?
Don't really want to go dealers. Maybe a specialist in the midlands.
-
Bushes don't cost too much. It will be labour what stings. An independant would probably do them for a couple of hours labour max.
Looking at under £200.
Where in the Midlands are you?
-
South birmingham.
Someone has recommended Midland VW.
But my car is 3.5 years old and done 33k, should bushes be knackered already?
-
Yeah on speed bumps but get the polybushes fitted if you want longevity. You might as well get the fronts done at the same time...but not boththe inner n outer I remember write

I had the same problem with my ed30 and it was the stricker for the tailgate try a bit of duck tape round the stricker that should stop the knocking noise. Hope this helps

HD my rear bushes replaced under warranty following the same symptoms.

Yeah, the rubber knobs on the parcel shelf strings do sound a bit like suspension knocks when you go over bumps.
Whip your parcel shelf out for a bit and see if the noise is still there.

Mine doesnt knock, but it creeks like a b!tch

I had a similar knocking noise that sounded like it was suspension. There is an old thread in the (18 months ago now maybe).
Turned out to be a defective locking mechanism for the boot. Once that was replaced the noise never came back. I wouldnt be surprised that you have the same thing.

Hi mate I'm a vw mechanic to trade and there's a good chance that if the boot or parcel shelf removal doesn't cure the noise, the rear arms bushes could be worn, we've done loads at work. There not bad to do but you will see the 18mm bolts behind the rear anti roll bar and 21mm nuts and bolts at the hub end. You may need to exhaust slid to one side and definitely need to rear anti roll bar out the way to access them

Id take a guess at the bushes...use independants though..or ebay..should get decent ones for a good price..then find a mate who knows what hes doing to save the labour lol
