Hello All,
A few questions if you don't mind please:
1. Are the driveshafts made of chocolate the garage have replaced one due to the gearbox end having play and now the other appears to have developed the same fault! Is this normal?
2. Is the gearbox end servicable the same as the CV? :undecided:
3. Assuming I replace with a second hand one for now are all the mk4 driveshafts the same or do I need particular ones for the PD 150?
Ta,

Never heard of any recurring problems with them.
They use 02M 6 speed 2WD driveshafts. Same as any 6 speed VAG MK4 chassis car.
I'm assuming from your response the inner CV joint is knackered/knocking/sheared. Are you running the car LOW? or standard height.

The car is running at standard height on 16" rims.
There is play in the shaft if I jack the car up and hold the wheel steady you can feel the play at the gearbox end. It's very slight but enough to make a clonk when you select reverse or first.
The offside was replaced a few weeks ago by the garage who diagnosed vibration through the car as a worn engine mount and play in the driveshaft but now it appears that the nearside has the same issue.
