Can you fit ant roll bars to the mk2 driver?
cheers max
-
yes. front you just need the brackets & drop links
rear. its probably easier to do a complete beam change as the GTi beam has an integrated rear anti roll bar
-
you would then get the benefits of rear discs as well, get the gti servo and master cylinder while you at it
-
Cheers. How long will it take to do all of that do you rekon? Or how much would you expect to pay for the parts above?
-
get them from a scrappy and i reckon under a hundred bar. if your mechanically minded i reckon a good 5 hours to strip it off, refit and bleed the brakes. of you got time and or money it would be worth a) getting braided hoses all round and rebuilding the existing mk2 calipers (prob seized from being at scrapy) or fit mk3 or 4 items. get a pressure bleeder makes it loads easier!
-
If your gonna get rear disks then you ideally need to fit the pressure regulator otherwise you may lock up when braking hard.
-
mk2 drivers have it fitted as standard, or should do!
-
The 1.6 Drivers don't have the regulator IIRC, but I believe the 1.8 Drivers do. The 1.8 Driver also has a front ARB, but not a rear one.

i have had or been involved in 2x mk2 1.6 drivers and a 1.6 ryder and all had the brake pressure thing

Oh ok, maybe I should get underneath mine and check
-
i wasnt being an arse i was just saying that all mine had

Speeking of anti-roll bars etc, I fitted a lower strut brace to my car today. Could only fit the front one as i have to remove the 2nd silencer for my exhaust to fit the rear one. It really does make a different. The cars a lot more solid. Downside is that it vibrates a lot more, But the handlings awsome! really worth the buy. Next week im gonna fit the top strut brace for the upper part of the motor which should really make the car solid. Then after new-year ill fit the rear.
-
all that means is that your wishbone bushes are knackered
the subframe does the job of the lower strut brace. the brace simply bolts between the two wishbone bolts doesnt it?
-
Yes. My wishbone bushes should be ok, I had the whole lot replaced last year when i crashed. i MIGHT be because my cars not a GTI model tho. Does feel a lot different. Gimmie a few mins and ill upload some pics

Front lower Strut Brace

Im buying a three piece strut brace kit soon. How does the front bottom fit? Oh and ive now got all i need to carry out a rear beam, anti roll bar and disc set up, will do in the new year.
-
The front bottom is easy. Just jack up the car, Take out two bolts, put the bar between the two bolts so the holes line up, then do the bolts back up.
A tire shop did it for me for ?10, i couldnt do it my self becuase you need a torque wrench to do it and i didnt want to spend ?60 on one. The top mounted one will go on some time later in the week i hope. The rear one has to waight because of the stupid 2nd silencer on the exhaust blocking its way. Gonna cost ?60 to replace the 2nd silencer with piping then fit the bar. Ill get that done after new-year.
The bar does make the front a LOT more solid. Getting more vibration through the peddles tho especially when im taking off from a standing start. I think im gonna have to tighten all the bolts just to be sure. Cant wait to get the other two on the car. Im gonna fit some Sparco anti-roll bars and adjustable coilovers to really get the car to turn well :)
**EDIT**
Heres an image of what i mean, Basically the bar just fills the gap between the two bolts. The bar is a lot thicker than the subframe, they re-enforce it.
