Went to power engineering today with a few friends and took the mk2 driver, (the 16v isn?t ready yet) and to my surprise it came out with 106 hp and 109 lbs of torque, sorted.
-
wait till Fielder gets hold of this
Any engine mods ?

a cheap set of high lift cams (kent) - cant remember the spec.
advanced timing.
no air filter.
second hand s/s bak box (?20).
good maintance.

I know Rich got 90BHP using a cam and a new Carb, Woha!!
Whats advanced timing?
-
Advanced timing is when you change the timing of the spark pattern; you can do this on drivers by taking out the dizzy and rotating it to the correct degree. When the VWs come off the assembly line they are set to a ?safe? limit. I advanced the timing until it started ?pinking? then wound it back a bit until all was good. My description is a bit vague, you really need someone to show you how, but it?s quite simple.
The operator was really shocked and said if I put a full stainless system on it and tweaked the fueling a bit ill be very close to GTI standards

seriously? is that the 1.6 or 1.8? thats pretty good! go on rip the interior out of it bung a weber on and exhaust and TRACK CAR!!!
-
That would be the 1.6. Its the runn around until the 16v is finished. When im done it will be my track car on twin 40s(i think), the suspensions all done appart from the anti roll bars.
-
that sohould be good, lightne it as much as you can, chop out boot floor etc should be good for a laugh!
-
Mk2s are really easy to strip, So easy infact that my nabours 9 year old kid did mine for me with a screw driver, hammer and chizel
-
Any idea how much the cams cost?? Whats ur MPG like with that extra power??
-
I haven't noticed any difference in fuel consumption
