Hi guys, I have a couple of minor problems with my 2001 20v Turbo Gti.
Firstly, my engine light came on, Rhyso cleared the code and the code which came back was 'Boost Pressure Control Valve Malfunction'
(The light has not come back on though)
So I went hunting for loose pipes, and the only one I can spot is the one circled in red in the attached photo, the inside of the elbow has totally perished, letting in un-metered air.

Secondly, under acceleration i can feel the car judder ever so slightly, or more accurately i would say a slight hesitation due to a small loss of power for a split second.
Lastly, when accelerating, if I change up a gear, I can hear a few small chirpping noises like 'pip pip pip' coming from the engine bay when im between gears. - not sure if this would be the re-circ valve not doing its job?
So, Im just wondering what course of action to take? Obviously change the breather pipe for starters, but what then - should I change the BPCV as a precaution and are they expensive.
Also as for the pip pip pip noise, im open to suggestions there?!
Thanks for reading!

the juddering will be down to that pipe being split. Replace that and see how you go but it sounds like your N75 needs replacing too

+1 and get a 007p on there

Is the standard DV no good then ??

Thanks all.
Wazzzer, does the n75 sit at the front of the bay under a metal bracket and is it costly (dealer part?)
Also Richw911, does the 007p replace the re-circ valve at the back of the bay? and again is it costly?
Cheers all for the helpful responses.

The n75 is next to your DV. Top right of yor pic.
Yes the 007p replaces the standard VW item costs about £80 but well worth doing if you intend to keep the car a while.
Have you seen the silicone replacement hoses for that Y shaped one? They'd probably be better than spending £30 at VW on the Y piece.
-
Thank TJG.
Is the n75 the one with the ribbed conduit coming off it in my pic?
Also, where can I get a silicone Y shaped tube?
Cheers!

Have a gander at this matey:

Had exactly the same issue as you.

Awesome, thanks Stronz, im all over it,
hmm which colour, black blue or red....
-
Black!
-
Lol, I didn't even remember to request a colour, but got sent a blue one. Considering replacing a few other pipes now to match in and tidy the bay up a bit..
-
I have a black y shaped breather and a blue lower breather, because I made the same mistake of not requesting a colour.
Fancy swapping? only three months on the car

Hey guys which N75 valve should I get?
Ive seen N75 C, F and J!
this one is a C:

I'd start by replacing bits you know are faulty / have splits in
Worry about the N75 AFTER you've replace the breather hose. That way you'll hopefully end up sending less on parts :afro:
You need to eliminate the known problems first
-
good point, fancy doing me a code read once I have replaced the pipe? (i can come to you)
The only other thing is the chirping noise... which is why i was looking into n279 n75.
One step at a time though eh!

No probs - drop me a text when you've replace the hose  Perhaps try and do some proper data logging too
-
ok, Ive replaced the hose - cheers all for the heads up regarding the ebay silicone one!
(Ive also replaced the fuel filter due to a random leak!)
I still have the chirping noise (more of a fplfplfpflll - according to my wife) on gear change (and a slight whistle when accelerating), I am waiting on some second hand bits to arrive (n75 and recirc valve) - see if they make any difference.

recirc valve could well be dead, or a leak in another hose somewhere...
-
hopefully the bits will arrive tomorrow. I will keep you posted.

what was the exact fault code?
a faulty dv can throw throw false positives, particularly n249 related fault codes. I wouldn't even touch the N75 until the dv is checked/replaced as that is what will be causing the "sneezing pigeon" noise on gear changes.

that has made my day

Well, the recirc valve just arrived in the post, and the dog has beaten me to it and chewed it in half (well annoyed).
Anyone know the part number so I can order one from dealer?
Thanks

If you're on about the DV then get a Forge 007p - you'll never have to replace it (hopefully) unlike the standard one which you'll be replacing in a couple of years
-
im not sure budget permits. do you have the dealer part number and price? or a 007p price?
-
Ive just fitted a new Blow-off Valve from the main stealers, and I 'think' the problem might be fixed!
I need to take it on a longer trip to be sure, but initially it seems to have stopped making the noise. Fingers crossed!
Now I can get back to saving for them keskins!
Thanks for all your help so far guys!

Quick update: No more chirping noises, I think that problem is fixed.
One problem though, the cheap plastic pipe which goes into the bottom of the silicone T shaped pipe I replaced has split where it goes into my new silicone pipe!
Is there an aftermarket pipe I should look into getting to replace it? or does anyone else have experience with this pipe breaking?
Also, I still have a slight wooshing air sound as if there might be another air leak somewhere else? Is the pancake pipe a suspect? (Ive checked all the pipes on the top of the bay and they are fine). whats the best way to get a peak at the pancake?
