Hi,
I have had the car about a 2 weeks. i filled up with petrol & have taken the car down to near empty. It has done roughly 320 miles with a mix of mostly town driving & a few 30 mile trips inbetween.
is this about right or is it excessive?
I have taken it pretty easy in the car with the occasional blasts here and there, not used aircon or anything else like that.
What do you think?

Is what about right? You havent stated your MPG? I would re-set Mfd unit to zero it again!! On a full tank though it sounds about right, if thats what you mean :undecided:
-
Looks right.
It will improve by about 5000 miles.
Will also be better if you use a high performance fuel such as BP Ultimate, Shell V Power or Tesco 99.
I have been using all of the above since new, have done 6500 miles and can achieve 400 miles from a tank quite easily now.

The only way to work it out is a brim tthen run to near empty then brim again. That way you can see how many Ltrs you have put back in the tank and how many mile you have done to use that amount of fuel so can work out the mpg.

I was tempted to get a jerry can and fill it up - then drive until the car ran out of petrol!!
I've been informed that a 4wd Golf has a 60L tank as opposed to a GTI which has a 55L tank. Seems odd if my red light is coming on and I can only SQUEEZE 50L in at the petrol pump! Surely my red light doesn't give me 10L?!

When my red light comes on I usually get around 50 liters without squeezing it down the pipe. I just let the pump do it´s thing...

MPG is all down to how you drive so it maybe normal for your driving style.

Early days yet, you need to give everything chance to bed in.

I do mostly shortish journeys, some in moderate traffic [town] and according to my MFD I am averaging 25.7MPG [had it up to 26 but it's crept back], which isn't bad. Don't go mad on the throttle usually because traffic doesn't allow, but do have few burns from time to time.

Have a look in your hand book it lists the reserve amount in there. The GTI is listed at 7 Ltrs. So it would not suprise me if the R is near 10.

Seen your car on e-bay, what you selling for don't you like the car?

Just for the record using the brim to brim method, my overall average was 30mpg for the first tank full and 29.69mpg for the second tank full. Thats commuting only work as im still running it in.

The car has covered 1,500 mls and it's averaging 33 to 34mpg. My experiance with past VW's is better fuel consumption after 5,000mls.

1100 miles so far, 25 mpg average, all in stop-start traffic 16 miles a day.

I wondered this when I read the figures as it stated the range somewhere (being the same or more or less), I though how could they be similar - then noticed the tank was bigger.
