Title: Brake Dust!

Hi guys, the wheels on my Gti are pretty filthy! Tried cleaning them with the usual chemicals but there are lots of black brake dust spots that just wont shift!! Any suggestions?  :smiley:

Have you tried Autosmart Tardis? Failing that clay them.

the spots on your rims are a combination of tar/breakdust/grit.

as suggested above get some tardis or preptone which will remove the tar then clay afterwoulds to remove any inbedded contaminents then seal and wax them to protect them, this will reduce this from happening in the future if you keep ontop of them :wink:

I've jetsealed mine since new and my alloys hardly need washed, sometimes a rub down is all the need and the only thing thats needs cleaning is my tyres. I have had no dirt/tar etc on them that is not removed either by a quick wash or a wipe. I use 3 coats of jetseal now instead of 2, for no other reason than I want to.  :grin:

I've used autogymm wheel sealant and it has had the same effect most dirt just hoses off.  A light brush with shampoo and water then is all they need.

I'm sure the fancy sealants are even better but since the one I have is just a quick spray and wipe job it is just not worth not doing them.

I've not really has much to compare against when it comes to sealants, but I can say for sure the fancy (jetseal) just seems to last and last, I can get 2-3 months out of it before the alloys need touched again.

How do you apply it (jetseal)?
Is it pretty easy like waxing the wheels or something more complicated?

2 coats... with about 10-15 mins to cure and about 30mins min inbetween coats.. apply using applicator pad and remove with microfibre

Thanks guy - might try that next time I need a new product.
It sounds a bit more faff but not too bad.

The pirelli wheels are really open and easy to clean / polish so it wouldn't take too long.
