Title: Locks can you help
Post by: Ashtonstanley on 15 May 2010, 17:41
Just brought another mk3 this week and the drivers door lock barrel has been removed and you can only access the car from the passenger side, I am a newbie and have not a clue about cars yet, so what do i need to do ? will it need new barrels all round if so where can i get these ? thanks.

Could just swap it to the drivers side?!! Or else i think you will need a whole new lock set. Id probably put it on the drivers side and just get a random barrel to fill the hole on the passenger side! :lipsrsealed:

Thanks for your thoughts is it hard to swap it over ?

Also the housing of the Clutchplate / flywheel has a plug or cap of some sort missing so you can actually see the wheel spinning through the hole, there is about a inch threaded hole so i would imagine some sort of threaded plug would go in there. Would this have a part number and what would it be called ?

Cheers

Has the car got remote central locking ??  If so then an easier solution is to change the complete handles drivers and passengers side for back door handles and de lock the car. A couple of handles would cost you a couple of quid off the bay and easy to fit.

Kits are out there to buy and I have never fitted one but can't be that difficult. Mind you my five minute jobs take forever lately!!!!!!!!!!!

I've fitted a Rclick set theres a how to round here somewhere, the kits never let me down and have been using it for 4-5 months, i would obviously recommend leaving the boot lock there as a fail safe
