Would love to have this gear knob.
Too expensive from the site below at $359.99.
http://www.parts4euro.com/DCShop/index.php?cPath=1_462_463&osCsid=f31f337c433c55b6be9bfaa12cf84ad6
Any ideas anyone?

£190 from VW is the cheapest I've seen up to now.
-
Have you tried contacting one of the guys on the other parts of the forum who have accounts with TPS. They normally get decent discounts.

Really want it. It is truly beautful.
There is also an Edition 30 DSG Shifter from those very expensive people who sell the screw down footrests!
-
You may have noticed if you were sad like me that the original two motorshow show cars in paris 2008 to show off the mk6 GTI before it was launched, the red one had the golf ball knob in it
Sad i noticed that back then is'nt it.

Just posted this on the Ed 30 Gear Selector Thread:
'I love the Ed 30 gear knob very much. It is a work of art.
I wonder if someone can start a group buy?
Maybe I should go to my dealer and try and prise a sustantial discount on a buy of a dozen and post the result on the forum? What do you think?
Hmm .....'
-
As i said try and find someone with a TPS account it maybe cheaper from them if they can get it.

Sorry to be so ignorant, but what is a TPS account, please?
-
I really want.
If anyone can get a decent discount I'm in.
It is sooo mk1.
-
No I don't just want - I need.
This is one of those things I'll just have to pay silly money for.
Unless anyone knows any different. Group buy somehow??

Trade parts supplies. Its a place that sells VW parts to the trade. Quite a few members of the forum seem to have an account and i think TPS is were the LED rear lights are probably coming from if memory serves me right but i could be wrong on that one and thinking of something else.

The ED30 DSG Shifter was one of the first mods I did on mine
I will also check with my TPS to see what we can do, given the amount of business we have put through them for the LED GB's etc we now get a very good level of discount

I should be able to give them a call on Monday and get back to you. Steve P may be able to get them cheaper as it very much depends on what mood some of the guys can be in sometimes
-
Just to add my interest to this. If the part can be sourced at the right price then I think I may have to make s purchase...
I'll wait and see how the quotes go though

Goodmorning.
You have to get one.
The more who want/need it, the merrier and possibly the lower the cost.
Have you found out anything how to get the roof into a shiny/glassy black finish at reasonable cost?
Wrapping should do it don't you think? It's also reversible.

I am sure it is easy to fit. Have not done it myself, but it's a straight swap of the knobs I think.
I'll put your name down anyway.

OK thanks. I have a horrible feeling the swap involves removing the gaiter, prising off tiny pieces of fragile plastic, sourcing a Torx driver from Taiwan, lifting out the engine...well, you get the idea! Would appreciate some reassurance that the job is both simple and straightforward.
-
Shove something flat underneath the front of the plastic surround that goes around the gaitor and shiny trim and gently lift it from the front. Either a trim removal tool or expired credit card is useful if you don't have steel finger nails.
Peel gaitor upwards to reveal big metal clip. Cut metal clip and lift knob and gaitor off.
Slide new knob onto shaft (fnarr fnarr) and clip up the metal clip (or better still use a hose clip that can be unscrewed, costs about 50p from B&Q or wherever) then once it's nice and tight over the shaft (fnarr fnarr) slide the gaitor and plastic trim into place and clip it into the centre console.
Get some elastoplast for your cuts and then return to admire your handywork.
Go for a drive.

O fcuk! Just for a knob change?
I remember the days when you just had to screw one off and screw the other one on.
-
But on a brighter note - no mention of engine removal  Nothing's ever easy on a VW.
-
I got my ED30 one off in about 2 minutes!
Stick your HAND in the leather gaitor, and grab the plastic infront of the gear shifter through the gaitor, and lift. It just pops off.
The only tool you require is a meaty set of cutters to remove the metal clip. Its pretty strong and takes something solid to cut through it.
I really went for it, as I was taking it out of my written off car in a hurry - but even then, I did no damage to it.

UPDATE
Been struggling with time due to work this week.
I have managed to get a price from TPS for 1K0 711 113 BS XPR £162.96 + VAT = £191.48. It was a quick call and i didn't ask about any discounts, sorry!!
I didn't ask about a GB but i could give them a phone later in the week and find out if required. At least it gives us an idea of how much they will be. Not sure if Steve P had been in touch with his branch to find out??

^^^ Yep ECS had that even cheaper a few ago.
The discount levels on the gear knobs are very very low, so the best I can do is: -
Manual = £180.50
DSG = £196.00
Plus a bit for postage.
Sorry I wasn't able to get a better price
-
Carn't justify £200 on a gearnob lol, ill wait till i find 1 that somebody has put though a hedge backwards
-
Im out! I can buy it anytime from my local dealer for £190 and no postage.
I've got my eye on a second hand one ive seen advertised for £100, will probably have a look at that tomorrow to see if it's any good.

Sorry I've just spent £400+ on LEDs so can't justify spending nearly £200 on a new knob  although I would love one in the future I don't need it to drive my car so will go without just now.

It can double up as a butt plug!
Nothing wrong with that if you are desperate!

I'm going to bail out on this too. I can't justify £180 on a gearknob really. I'll have to wait and see what knob VW gives us with the ED35. In the meantime I may have a go at modifying the $19.95 butt plug I've got already which is a more faithful replica of the cliassic GTIs gearknob (and free seing as I already own it.
I'll save my pennies for Mickey Mouse in a couple of months time and maybe some LED tails.

Unless the price comes down drastically, I'm out too. An Ipad is higher up the list of priorities at the moment.

Now that is really fantastic value. Miles better than the standard GTi shifter.

Eh?!?! You have more faces than Big Ben. One minute you need to be desperate to have it, the next its fantastic value. Make up your mind.
At least James Gould was entertaining with it.

I did not say I liked it, did I?
You really are not very good at reading or understanding.
You've done this before, remember?
It is good value, better looking than the standard one. Does this mean I like it? NO.
I am so glad you found James Gould entertaining. Wish you could say the same about youself.

Talk about a good service department.
Went to see them just now to check the price for the Ed30 manual shift. Told them I want a discount on the part and the fitting. Their profit margin is 10% (?), it's a back order item and I got it for £180, that is a £11.45 discount. I did bargain a bit, I must admit! :embarassed: Good enough for me. Even better was the fitting charge for, well let's say, peanuts! I'm happy!
Nice people to do business with.
Sorry SteveP that I have got it from my dealer this time. It was too good to resist. I hope you understand. Thanks for your help.

I'll see my dealer who has been great so far.
Looks like Wolfgang and Wolfi could be the only mk6s with this work of art.
Let us all know about the remap. You will love it need it.
Removed mine the other day, went for a drive and had to pull over to reinstall.

By a stroke of luck, I came across an Ed30 Mk5 GTi at the dealers today. The car had been beautifully maintained. Had to ask the owner for a look and feel of his Ed30 gear shift. It really is a work of art. Worth every £ IMO. The owner said that the best thing about his interior was his Ed30 gear shift. I could not agree more.
Can't wait.
BTW do you reside near my neck of the woods?

Very carefully checked this item today.
Found that the gaitor is not properly attached on one side and the silver top ring not consistent in finish in one tiny area.
Went to the parts dept and they felt there was nothing wrong with the gaitor attachment on that side as it was held with clips and spacers. Hence the gaps. It's not the same on the standard gaitor.
Regarding the slight inconsistency on the ring finish, they again felt it was hardly noticeable (which is true). Now that I know it's there, it's going to bug me.
It would cost me 20% handling charge to return and and get a refund and I don't think they will order another one as it is a back order item. Bugger.
I'll think about what to do tonight and decide. A bit peeved off.
For £180, I expect perfection.

if it was me , I would fit it yes you know there, but no else would notice it??
