Does having 17's effect MPG?
I'm having major problems with my MPG. Couple weeks ago i removed and cleaned egr & intake manifold took me hours but the amount of gunk was unbelievable since then im struggling to do above 46mpg on the motorway. I've double checked everthing to make sure all nuts are tight and hose are on properly and they are, dont understand why i have lost mpg apart from putting 17" Oz wheels could this effect the MPG this bad??
hhhheeeeeelllllppppppp

May affect it very slightly but shouldnt be really noticable like the figures your refering to.

Is there anything else I can check for the culprit for poor mpg, could it be the maf?

If you wanna see if you've got a buggered maf, unplug the maf and see if the car drives any better.
As far as I know, 17's or even 18'2 shouldn't affect your MPG that much.
It could be a series of things, possible boost leak, well more thans likely a boost leak.
Get the car scanned for starters as this will give you a good idea of what's wrong.

Would depend on wheel weight & profile. If the profile is not OE spec your speedo will be out, wheel weight I would assume effects MPG too as it does handling.
