Title: mk3 16v conversion thread?
Post by: tweed on 14 May 2010, 16:51
I have tried a search but couldn't find anything, maybe looking in the wrong place.
basically I have a mk3 16v and I'm picking up a mk2 gti shell minus the engine and gear box. I was just wondering if someone had a thread to this conversion so I can look at when I get stuck lol

This is going to be a track car by the way, I ain't cutting corners and might take me couple of years to complete. need to get the mk2 ready first, then the engine is getting rebuilt and many parts are getting powder coated, sub frame, rear beam etc.

I am good with mechanics and do want to try and rebuild the engine myself. it will be my first, do you think this is wise idea lol. I don't want crazy power just a set of cams and porting the head will do. head work I will leave to a professional though.

Use JNL Racing for your port and flow job - top guy.

There's quite a lot of information on DannyP's website regarding the wiring.  If you're going into this on a long timeline, provide you have a multimeter and some patience you'll be able to sort the wiring.  The rest of it pretty much bolts up.  The swap can be completed in a weekend TBH.

dont fool yourself into thinking it will be cheap. headwork and matched manifolds will be £750 from the said machinest, or anyone of similar standard
