Ouch the cheek, sorry GTIs not included . Anyway how many miles are the GTD owners getting per tank, mine has just done 615 miles (3rd tank full)(was 330 at half tank point) with 1500odd miles on the clock and its only getting better.
-
Would be interesting if people look at how many litres they are putting back in to fill the tank and how many miles they have done since they last brimmed it to the top. That way we could workout the average mpg.
The to the tank figures figues people are asking for are all depending on too many factors.
-
TBH i havent gaged it on a long trip? But I am getting 60-63 MPG at 50mph, 55 at 75mph. I know this much its costing me a lot less than the ED30 each month £280 for petrol, My GTD is half the cost about £160 but this can fluctiate depending on my right foot!! :smug:
And its sounds awsome and my tailpipes are so clean!!
-
I do a 200 mile round trip at least once a week (lets say at a `generous` 70mph), the rest is mostly just work and back on A roads.
I tend to get between 550 and 600 (projects about 630 on a long trip with a full tank), Though I fill up with about 150 still left in.
I keep a spread sheet cos I`m sad, averages I get:
46.19 MPG
12.4p per mile
I have about 3k mile now, and I`m at the phase where I boot it a bit more than when I first got it.
-
I actually put 54 litres in at 615 which gives 51.8mpg, was driving like miss daisy and had a long run of 300 miles on mainly motorway and on cruise control. Had only 15 miles on the range clock when I rolled into the petrol station was driving very gently at that point. Quite impressed and hopefully it will get better, managed to achieve a computer stated 59.8mpg on a run to work which was 28 miles. Although I think that the cruise control isnt as efficient as driving without at the moment. I couldn't beat the cruise in my GTTDI 140 Mk5, but not sure about the mk6. I usually fill up to one click and then fill to the next round litre to get the points as they are dont by litres rather than pounds at shell.

No GTIs allowed. How dare you.
I average around 380.
But then I have a bigger grin on my face for each and every mile.

Thats cause they started that over here http://www.golfgtiforum.co.uk/index.php?topic=154885.0 (http://www.golfgtiforum.co.uk/index.php?topic=154885.0)
Still though 380s not bad for the GTI, when I do 300 a week to work and back its too much for me to fund.

I have to agree with you on those figures.

Not sure about miles out of tank but trip from Kenilworth prodrive centre (new touareg launch) to Cheltenham down m5 got it upto 58 mpg doing 70-80 all the way. Needle hardly moved from full on way back
-
535 miles.
-
GT with bluefin allowed?.
If not ignore :lipsrsealed: Average 52mpg at the moment thats since the timer went past 99 hours and reset clock 2. I can get anywhere from 47-55 on my daily trip to work about 12 miles. Depends on how cold it is a startup.
-
Well I've only done 1900 miles and I'm on my 5th full tank. The first one did 475 which is 43.18mpg. The second did 453 which is 38.13mpg. The third one did 483 which is 43.05mpg. The fourth one did 492 which is 42.02mpg. This is 70% local and 30% crusing driving. You can't believe what the MFD tells you the only true figure is full tank to full tank and calculate it yourself.
The claimed figure by VW is supposed to be 650 miles per tank. I'm not that impressed at the moment even thought its 25% better than my last car Rover 216 GTi. They say that these VW diesels take about 20k to loosen up so thats going to take about 3 years.
-
Wow thats not as good as mine, it was reading 330ish at half tank the other day. It does estimate 600-650 a tank. Now got nearly 2000 miles on the clock and not used a single bit of oil.

330ish. Amazing. And this with a baggy gearbox!
-
I think that maybe the loose gearbox makes it work more efficiently, had alot of spirited driving yesterday and used just over 1/4 tank to do 200 miles. Well chuffed, got the oil temp up to 106 degrees C and had the fan stay on for ages when the car was switched off and this was at 20 degrees ambient temp at 10:30pm last night.
-
353.8 miles, 31 litres (squeezed in too), calculated mpg 51.9mpg.

HA HA!!! you are all crap

Must of been driving like my granny with those figures

...with Michelin EnergySaver tires...
Will have to chop in the bridgestones to get more economy obviously.
The photo of the fuel guage and distance to empty, shows, 809km thats 505 miles.

yes well spotted,

Probably all its electrics went haywire and it was on the back of a tow trucks thats how it got so far on a full tank. Chortle Chortle.

I am getting pretty p!ssed off and jealous reading this thread.
If I get 220 miles from a full tank, I'll take on a mistress!
Fed up poking a nozzle into my gas pipe so often.
-
The reason why i have GTI looks with GTD economy. Otherwise I would be filling my car every three days.

+1 from me , the ed30 killed me off for petrol!! nearly 300 quid a month when I had that motor!!
-
Why don't you two get a room and leave me alone in my misery.
I HATE GAS STATIONS.

.. and here's me thinking of moving back to a R32
I would only fill up once a week most of the time... but seriously, what a pain!!

I tell you, it's a pain. Filled Wolfgang again. £60+.
Five full tanks in 1140 miles! How bad is that?
Really, sick of this.
Should have got a diesel, any bloody diesel.

Thats pretty shocking milage. i only do short start stop journeys (8mile) to work and I still get more than 300miles per tank.

Thats pretty shocking milage. i only do short start stop journeys (8mile) to work and I still get more than 300miles per tank.
I drive everyday through central London, 8 miles each way all in heavy stop/strat traffic. My average speed is approx 8-9 mph.
The lousy fuel economy is really getting to me now. At least it is better than the Type R I had. Small consolation.
I really should have got a Golf GTD DSG, BMW 3 Series Diesel or Mercedes C Class Diesel.
My ex's C Class 350 CDI Sport gives much, much better economy. I think I will start using it from now onwards. Only 2 problems: it's a bit big for parking at work and I hate the foot operated parking brake on it.
Therefore, I feel a bit stuffed!

I will seriously consider your kind advice.
Will you be happy to pay hospital and funeral expenses?

I have a GTI not a diesel but I'm averaging 32 mpg on my daily drive back and forth to work. 9 miles each way from a cold start. I live in a city with some traffic to work. During my recent euro trip I got 29.4 mpg on my 4038 miles journey in two weeks. I would have though it would be better then my daily drive but driving 90 mph to 140 mph on the autobahn really uses fuel. :D I don't care about fuel economy. It's the least expensive thing about owning a car over here even though we still pay more for the fuel here in Norway.
-
Awry: That's a good long run. Most impressive.
Bet she is now as loose as a goose!
Any stone chips?

Yep. I got four. One on the side mirror, one on the front spoiler and two very small, barely noticeable on the hood. Not bad considering it was a really long trip. I didn't get a single chip while driving on the autobahn though. I'm guessing they would have been massive while doing 200+ kph. I expected to get some stone chips so it's ok. I'm glad I didn't kerb the wheels though after driving in several big european cities. Those really high edges driving into parking garages are scary. :D

That's a very small number. Now if you came to the UK, your car would be peppered. Keep the car away and save your paint!
Very impressed that you did not kerb the alloys. Now that's the mark of a very good and careful driver.

Thanks. :) I was actually planning to drive though UK to Newcastle and take the ferry back to Norway but it's not possible anymore. Good thing for my GTI then. Anyway back to the mpg topic. I'll update my original post about my trip instead so I don't hijack this thread. :)

You dont have to kill anyone. just kick them out of the way

My car runs on special diesel. It's a bit more refined. I think the name is petrol or something.
Anyway I got 525 miles out my tank from full to empty. There was nothing left in the tank as I pulled into the station. During my journey I averaged 65 ish with one blast up to 135 kmph
I know we have a bit of rivalry between diesel and petrol but my car is putting out 270 bhp and 300 lbs of torque. I'm getting maybe 70% of the mpg that a 170 bhp diesel gets. The diesel is putting out about 65% of the power of my car? When looked at that way I'd say the GTI is still a pretty good car for the performance.
And if you want to argue with that go look at a Focus RS owner's mpg claims... yet the GTI can match that thing for pace.

Congratulations! You win a Polo Bluemotion Miser Edition!
The reason for the GTD is that you can drive how you like and get that kind of MPG. Bit pointless me saying I can get higher MPG when I don't typically (I actually get pretty much the same as you're claiming over 7,000 miles now).
-
You might have missed my joke there (I'll admit it was subtle). I was driving pretty much how I like at one point.
But I'll take the Polo bluemotion... brilliant cars I think

I've joined Fuelly and I'm not impressed with the results.
Now it doesn't calculate the mpg correctly. I contacted the admin/mods over a couple of problems and they that replied to some but not the incorrect calculations, its not rocket science to do the calculations. It shows 34.7 mpg average when the lowest as been 38.13 mpg and the highest was 43.27 mpg. I've added you can add 8 mpg on top of this.

Must be american, I dont think the car can hold 14 odd gallons can it. Thats 65 litres tanks only 55litres in size.

I presume you are talking to me?
No its a 55 litre tank, there is a UK option Fuelly.

Ahh found it right at the top on the left is the US / UK. Now seems right.
-
Who gives a **** how many miles a tank you get? I do a 60 mile a day commute and have never (and I mean NEVER) once regretted getting a GTi rather than a GTD.
There was one diesel in the queue for the quarter mile sprint at GTi International on Saturday (a Bora if I remember correctly) and that's the point where I knew I'd made the right decision buying the GTi!!!!!!
-
Whats a GTi ?
Keithuk: DO you have any photos of your GTD you can post as its a rare colour?
