its on the bulkhead behind the clocks should be a screw there

I didnt know the clocks were earthed behind the clocks, i thought they were earthed near the fusebox with everything else?

some have an earth to the side/rear of the cylinder head, brown/white wire

ah, the same brown and white wire with a ring connector that i found in the engine bay that i didnt know where to put. you helped me with that one (amongst loads of other things!). It was just when raferackstraw said about a location behind the clocks, wasnt aware there was one.

aye thats the one!

So best to check next to the cylinder head first do you reckon? I started up the golf last week dash worked fine then died deff an earth, sounds like it is more than likley it will be in the engine bay as that where is gets really dirty rather than behind the clock !
I am a bit of a mechanical novice any chance of a piccy of the engine bay where it is ;0)

yep start in the engine bay. look on the side of the engine above the gearbox. if you see any loose brown or brown/white wires, or any that look liek they have a poor connection then fix :)

Thank you guys soooooo much, all fixed, all it was was the brown and white wire in the engine bay ! a little wiggle and a clean all done ! thanks dudes
