a million things can set dash lights off, you need it scanned for faults.

Title: Re: EPC and ENGINE MANAGEMENT LIGHT ON - UPDATED!!!
Post by: njdudsbury on 10 May 2010, 17:17
Hi all
Had it plugged in and the error code is P0601 (control unit faulty)
Seems to tick over very slightly lumpy and when error code is taken out seems to pick up and tick over normal (that may be all my head as I know there is a problem).
When you turn off then back on again the EPC light comes back on and after 2 or 3 start ups the EML comes on as well.
Car still runs fine
Anybody help please.
Got it booked in next week for some invstigation work but could be new ECU at worst.

It is my car from the linked thread.

No, it is not sorted. I've been driving for the last 4 months with the warning lights on.

I have spoken to and emailed all sorts of people; some are more help than others!

My local mapper can't/won't touch it and says it's VW only.

VW UK don't want to know.

I took the technical bulletin to 2 main dealers. 1st said it was rubbish. 2nd one said they would try the software update if I could get the CD.

VW USA have given me the part number for the software CD (only $20), but I can't order one without logging into the ordering website (which I can't). They also can't say if it will work on a UK car.

Am currently waiting for someone at another main dealer to get back to me.

I fear that a new ECU will be the only fix, but I don't want to spend that sort of dosh if I don't have to. I hope you can get further with this than me!

i think i've about cracked it

DJGTi - is your car also an import model? it makes tracking down the right software a little trickier.. especially with how vw revise the med9 sw numbers
