Title: alloy wheel sizes ?
Post by: graham on 04 December 2004, 11:58
I have a mk 4 GTi 1.8 non turbo model fitted with 15inch alloys. What size can I safely go to, what are the poblems with different sizes, is it best to stay with the 15 inch? any advice or comments on tyres and wheels for this model.     Graham

I've got exactly the same model as you.? ?:cool:

You can change the wheels to any size you like as long as the total radius remains the same (i.e. reduce the tyre profile accordingly).? I assume you've currently got 195/65/15s, as that's what my car came with.? You can change to 205/55/16s, 225/45/17s or 225/40/18s, as these all have almost exactly the same total radius to within a mm or so.

Just in case you didn't know, the x/y/z numbers mean the following:
x=tyre width in mm
y=tyre profile as a % of x
z=rim diameter.

The only thing to watch out for is the bolt arrangement, and offset.? You need 5x100mm, but I'm not sure about the offset (30mm?)

I've currently got some audi TT 17" alloys that I bought off ebay? :smiley:

RS4's in 18's do look very nice but are a bit common. Have them on mine and don't care if there are loads around. Could put 18" BBS RC's as fitted to the Anniversary which are the dogs.
