Hello All,
New to the forum and would appriciate any advice/ideas/help!
I cracked the sump on my beloved standard MK 4 Golf. After having the car sat in a garage for 8 weeks I have now been told by VW UK that the factory will not be pressing replacement sumps 'for the forseeable future' but offered no further information. I have scoured the Net for a replacement to no avail and places like GFS do not list that particular sump. I cant find one anwhere! Can anyone suggest a reason why VW would just stop making such an important part for such a popular car??? HELP!
Thanks

I've just had mind done mate, on the exact same engine. Cost me..wait for it.... 278.00!!! It would have been about 100.00 less had i not rounded one of the bolts off, it was really awkward to get to where it meets the transmission.
Absolutly gutted about it mate.
It isn't a hard job to do on your own, you just need to get a special tool to remove a couple of awkwardly placed bolts. It probably one of those flexible shafts for the socket set you need. I didn' have one and tried to used a ball ended alan key...
My friend got a sump for 42.00 with sealant etc. Oil is about 30-40 quid. Halfords have castrol magnatec on offer for about 32 quid for 5 liters that should do you.
