"Volkswagen will launch a hardcore version of the Golf GTI at its annual Worthersee Tour event in Austria next week.
Although there are no changes to its 2.0-litre engine under the bonnet, the VW Golf GTI Excessive edition boasts wider tracks, revised springs and dampers, upgraded brake discs and pads and a new lightweight exhaust system.
Completing the modifications are new multi-spoke black 19-inch alloys equipped with semi-slick tyres, a new diffuser, sill extensions, new air dams, a new front splitter, rear diffuser and plastic wheelarch extensions.
VW hasn’t said whether the Excessive edition is destined for production and says it remains as an evaluation concept at this stage. If it does make production, the Excessive would sit between the GTI and R models in the Golf’s range.
However, VW’s accessories department is keen to make some of the Excessive’s individual components such as its springs and brakes available as options for GTI buyers to equip their cars with.
No images of the VW Golf GTI Excessive edition have been released ahead of the car's launch next Thursday.
VW’s other model at Worthersee Tour will be the VW Golf GTI Adidas edition, which is pictured here.
The Adidas model is a tie-in with the famous German sports equipment firm and the changes to the VW Golf GTI for the model are purely cosmetic.
They include new 18-inch alloy wheels, Adidas detailing, the LED rear lights from the Golf R and unique interior trim. The LED rear lights will soon become standard across the Golf GTI’s range.
The VW Golf GTI Adidas edition will not go on sale in the UK."

O dear! More expense for us!
-
Nice alloys!
-
Not quite as 'Excessive' as mine and I've got 17" Monzas.
-
And the point of that is?
-
End of line shift out models. Same whenever sales need bumping up ahead of a replacement.
Nick

I think those alloys are totally minging
Gizzy

+1.
It is as if the designer suffered with major cataracts in both eyes. Nay, he was probably totally blind & on death's door, having been assaulted by VW top brass for being so sh!t!
-
There pretty like the alloys on the Fiat Punto Abarth.

There pretty like the alloys on the Fiat Punto Abarth.
You are so right. They are running out of design ideas for wheels! Totally poop.
-
Cannot see the point of another model.
-
"excessive"? that has to be a bad translation!
adidas, quite possibly the brand king of rebranding the same thing over and over as something new and exciting delivers what with this car? perhaps this is not one of autocar's finer features
-
And the point of that is?
^^^ A possible Edition 35 for 2011, perhaps? :nerd:

No mention of any horse power upgrades mind.

^^^ agreed, but the tweaks to brakes, weight saving and the semi-slicks will surely make it 'nimbler' and a better car than a standard GTI?

So would the driver going on a diet
-
I can't see the point but it will be interesting to see this car. Regarding the semi-slicks there is no way I would have one. Too much rain here. :)
-
I'm thinking Edition 35 too.
Didn't they sort of preview the Edition 30 at Worthersee a few years back too?
Dave
-
So there has been an edition 25.. edition 30 and now the proposed editions 35. Is it just me or are the exclusive special editions becoming a bit common?
Soon it will be more special to have a non-special GTI
-
Plenty more than that over the years!
-
Worthersee
Always has its editions.
Last years ones have not seen production,
Remember the white one with black stripes or the metallic red one?
All just show cars, nothing more, simply a good way to get in mags.
-
The Edition 30 came out at the VERY END of 2006 - as the majority of them are 2007+
If there is to be an Edition 35 - which I'm sure there will be... surely it would be at the very end of 2011, with deliveries being 2012?

Saw 2 Golf Rs today. Black and Blue following each other. Quite fabulous.
Wish I had bought one instead.

Styling excersises though Snoopy.
Note the W12 GTI from a few years ago which lead toward the styling on the mk6 GTI.
Dumbed down versions may make it into production, even if we don't get them in the UK

Not made of money you know.
GTD would have been the sensible choice though.

'Hardcore'
As if.
-
Sorry, that is horrible
Attraction of GTI or R is the subtle aggression.
That's a mess.
-
Anyone remember last years version?

They do it every year, Im pretty sure the W12 was made for the same event.
If this "hardcore" version goes into production I'll eat my air intake.
-
^ Yes i remember as i said above and still have the pics of the cars shown, that metallic red colour is what i wanted but VW never made it a production colour

I had hoped that the black wheel arches would bring back the Mk1/Mk2 look but sadley it looks like a volvo C30
-
Very vulgar looking cars IMO.
The only feature I like is the gloss black roof on the red car.
-
I quite like the yellow one  but the wheels are too big.

Oh yes indeed it is!!

Love that red, and I like the 'get the f**k out of my way' grilles in the bumper in lieu of foglights.
I like the skirts and lamin-x fogs on the yeller one (actually I quite like the yellow too)
I like the 350 ps of the white and blue one.
Mix n match for me please.......
-
Yes i liked the red metallic too i liked it last year on the other special edition as well. I wanted it on my car but its not a VW production colour so i could not have it.
-
The Excessive looks wicked, real hints of Touring Car. Horney wants!
Nick
-
I really like the wheels on that yellow one!
But Snoopy is right, that metallic red is a phenomenal colour!

^^^ I disagree, sir. Leave that type of look for the ST and CTR drivers.

+1, those wheels are the nuts.

I am amazed no one has noticed the 350ps badge. COOOOL. Blue dash not so COOOOL.

Stolen from a thread in the mk5 section.
The excess seats

-
I have to be honest guys. I really love that yellow one. I don't know what it is about it but there is something that I think looks so classic and magnificent. I would be really tempted to buy one in that colour. It just stands out so much from other cars. I think yellow sometimes is seriously underrated.
-
"It is a GTI, only more so. Thanks to a new exhaust system, power from the Golf's 2.0-litre turbo engine is boosted from 207bhp to 211bhp, while torque rises slightly to 211lb ft."

-
Theres some good bits from all of them, but none on thier own are that great. VW must try harder!
The yellow one is quite sweet, and 'could' be a good basis for an anniversay 35 year model. The black Xenon lamps from the R and tail lights, the new wheels, and what are the skirts from?
The Addidas GTi is terrible, really really terrible. Who or what would buy one of those? The interior seats are so chav its unreal! I really can't beleive they are thinking of making 4000+ of them. I guess it will mean that used GTi prices may drop, as they will have to extra discount to get rid of them!
Dave

+1

+1
+1  Very OTT.
The things I like are: (1) the glossy black roof on the red car, (2) the fabulous metallic red paint and (3) the Edition 30 Manual Gear Shift Knob.
-
I think if they had done the black wheel arches in the style of the mk2 golf i would probably like it
-

I have had cars like Renault 5 GT Turbo (2), Honda Type R GT (1) and a few others, all with too many add-ons. I now prefer the unadorned and 'natural' look!
Your picture gallery is filling up nicely.
-
You've just removed it!
-
I keep changing it  I do have another car i could add but its even more fugly, its used as a van/fetch and carry/to the tip tripper, I also have two 50s classic cars part restored i have more or less inherited from my dad (he's given up on them) but thats just getting carried away if i add them too
-
You've got your hands full!
All garaged?
-
All but one. Now you know why i have so many projects and bought the mk6 to basically run and not worry to much about. Has not quite worked out that way yet
-
(http://imgs.worldcarfans.com/2010/5/13/medium/1861844696686674489.jpg)
Black Uni, Candy White, Tornado Red, or the higher-priced Oryx White

Wot fun!

Are these just concepts or will they be available to buy?
I know I'll get some stick but I kinda like the adidas interior.
-
It's pointing toward the Adidas being released as a limited edition from reading the initial press releases.
I think the others are just tasters for other developments.
Fingers crossed, if enough influential UK forum honchos get onto VW they may bring some or all of 'em over to GTI International just like they did the W12 a few years back.
-
I like the red excess one, that is  looking i want one.

Although it looks different and I quite like it, I could never have anything like that as it is total chav. Should really be in the inside of something like this:
