I have a set of 17" alloys on my MKII, but I do not think I would get away with lowering, defo not 40mm.
If my cr is fully loaded and I hit a bump I hear the tyres catch, this is very rare, but I think it would be more likely with lowered springs and shocks.
Regards.
Dean.

You'll need to do some work on your arches.
Happy rolling!

The Golf magazine did an article recently on wheels and tires with regards to lowering distances. They also told you how to make your own wheel arch rolling tool so as you could do it yourself. Might be worth getting a back issue.

07946281999 stuart.....he rolls arches n the lot. Charges 60 per arche or 40 per arche if u remove your own arches, but he is based in milton keynes though but willing to travel dependant on distance n sometimes charges petrol. Good luck ;)
