Ok quick question.
If someone is going to claim off there insurence cause they reversed into your car while you were stationary do teh police need to be informed?
I know that accidents have to be reported in 24hr's but do they have to be reported to claim?
Now the boring bit, last night came out to car park got into car, person who is a girl friend of a friend got in her car and went forward, they reversed round, I was still sitting there see her coming, beeping horn etc.. looked forward nowhere to go! (didn't think to look back) then smash, but then she just drove off!
Of course we chased her, then stoped behind her at lights Gareth jumped out and as you can imagine went mad, we both pulled over after the lights, door is a right mess, she said, oh I didn't know it was yoru car! but agreed that she would pay to get it fixed, so got quote ?750 to sort it and guess what she don't have any money so wants to claim off her insurence now!
My poor little GT polo is like this and her fiat chicky chento is fine
It is really hard to know what to do as she is a girlfriend of a friend, do I say she drove off if I ring them or miss that part out?
All I want is the car sorted and I'll be happy but nothing is simple!
-
As no one was injured, the police dont really need to be informed. I would forget to mention the fact she drove off. You have her details now, so just submit the claim to her insurance company.
-
Ok if I am claiming from her insurence, do I ring them or her?
ALso do I need to involve my insurence? (I don't want to lose my no-claims it has taken me years to get just cause some stupid c*w can't drive)
-
She needs to submit a claim to her company. Yours dont really need to know about it. AFAIK her insurance company will contact you.
-
ok cool thanks
I can see this being a long thing!
-
give her a couple of slaps while your at it. a hit and run then?
-
I can tell you I almost did last night I was mad!
Now my worry is that the insurence will try to write off my (was mint) H reg GT as they won't see it being worth much more than ?750 but if that does happen I have a plan
-
if that happens, you can opt to keep the car and receive the value of the car minus the scrap value. Then pay to have it repaired yourself.
-
she drove off???? meaning she had no intention of resolving the situation properly???
What a sh!te attitude. I personally would report her, mentioning the fact she drove off (which i'm pretty sure is an offence in itself) and pursure the claim, friend of a friend or not
oh, and once its settled, i'd torch her car. with her in it.
-
Yes she drove off I was shocked
yes it is a offence, and I made sure she knew about it, when she was claiming that she didn't know it was my car I still made the point of whoever's car it was she should have stoped.
her excuse 'I have only been driving for 4 months' Gary told her she needs to go and have some more lessons
Well I am going to ring her insurence myself in the morning and if I get any hassle I will be bring up the driving off part!
-
i was reading this think "please dont let it be the limited, pleaseeee"
From what i know, the police only have to be informed if someone is injured or you smash into public property!
If they do write it off, cos of economic reasons, they let you decided whether they come and collect it so that it can be scrapped, or you can deal with the car, i.e. keep it and repair it yourself!! ?plus they will give you the money that they think the car is worth!
Thats what happened when my first golf was written off, i think most insurenace companies do this

D'oh, didnt read this far! :embarassed: :embarassed: :embarassed:
-
yeah thats a sh!t attitude of the girlfriend, i can kind of understand that if she was a new driver she might have got scared by the fact she'd just crashed but still. dont think they'd be getting a christmas card this year!!!
-
Now if it was the Limited she would be dead already! I i think her boyfriend would be too!
Now I bet the insurence won't take into account the only 40,000 miles one owner etc.... ?
But I can tell you this car won't be scrapped what ever!
-
I dont think you're being harsh enough
Someone drove into my golf once and left it, I was fookin p!ssed off I can tell you
If I were you, I'd toddle off to the pig station and report it......but then I am very mean
-
I used a 3rd party claims specialist called help-hire. Pay them a tenner and they do all the chasing for you, insurers/solicitors etc, only thing is you have to use one of their approved garages to do the repairs and they send their own assessor out. They also handle the personal injury side of things. If you need a hire car they arrange it and claim the costs off the other insurance company (only if it comes to more than ?40, at ?2.50 a day)

I would do the same thing if i owned a limited and someone wrote it off
they probaly wont, they didnt with my old golf that has just snapped the 50000 mile mark and was in near enough mint condition except a slight dent in the door
-
I'd report her anyway.
If the B1tch is nasty enough to drive off, her version of events to her insurance company might not be the same as yours, ending up in a dispute between the insurance companies as to who is to blame
Get it in first. The wife ended up in a dispute with a farmer over an accident where on a country lane he skidded into her. I saw it all as I was following her home.
He was great at the scene, but not trusting him I went straight home and got a camera. Took photos of the scene including a slight skid mark of his.
These photos plus some quality witness statements ment that he was knackered. Too right. Theiving Fooker
Full payout received. along with lots of insurance hassle.
Only downside is that you might be stuffed with your no claims. Insurance company kept my wifes No Claims due to it being protected but then loaded it as she'd had an accident, even though it wasn't her fault.
 They're all theiving fookers ?

I still say burn the b!tch
-
Nah, STONE HER
-
Nah, STONE HER
aye, canny idea piggy, n burn a after like ??
-
I keep a disposable camera in my car, just in case some one runs into it. A few photo's would stop any doubt when it comes to claiming. Camera phones would be no good as digital photography is inadmissable as evidence though.
-
yeah wish id had one o those!
-
Nah, STONE HER

Duck her, stone her, burn her and quarter her.
