friend of mine just blew up his Mk4, because he didnt change the cam belt, so he needs another car.
he liked the manual Mk4, 1.6. but his Mrs now wants a auto.
So I said a Mk5 1.9 tdi DSG is his best bet, but only has £5k, and Mk5 DSGs are obviously all high milers at that price. So was thinking maybe a tidy lower mileage Mk4 would be better.
your thoughts please... :nerd:

Depends if he likes driving or not
Mk5 out of the box is a much better propect in terms of handling etc
Low mileage MK4's aren't very common these days and the auto boxes in them aren't exactly brilliant
only thing I'd have against the Mk5 is the reliabilty of the DSG box :undecided:
Tell him to get his missus a push bike

Get her an annual zonecard and keep the £1k change, or whatever

DSG box is perfectly reliable once serviced at the correct periods, like anything really. Though since your friend blew up his last car from not changing the cam belt I wouldn't recommend it or any vw to him :lipsrsealed:
