Title: Call of Duty - Black Ops
Post by: Devilz on 03 May 2010, 20:43
Alright my fellow gamers, are you ready for this
Title: Re: Call of Duty - Black Ops
Post by: Evoss on 03 May 2010, 22:41
Ill give it a go... but i hope its not a MW rip off again. MW2 was just an expansion, and simply a no skills blood bath game :P Spray and pray and u get top scores lol.

Gonna be interesting how this game turns out, as the original MW/MW2 team are totally disamantled now.

I still stand by what I've been saying for a while. World at war is better gameplay than MW2, but MW2 is more realistic (1 or 2 shots and you're out). I'll give black ops a try though

Wow a new one coming out?

MW2 is the first COD game i've played, if I have loved that game which others are good from the range? Something similar and not with ancient guns and equipment :)

Any sneak peeks at the game or info on it?

I can;t go to the link in Devilz sig as work are blocking it :(

Dunno...is this gonna be stand alone? Is it really gonna be better as treyarch are doing it...infinity ward were sooo much Better IMO.

They should release new maps for mw2 but as infinity wArd were sacked it seemsunlikely.

Post by: AlanD on 04 May 2010, 16:18
Ill get it but dont have high hopes like I had with MW2. The infinity ward games have always been much much much better so we shall see.

Theres DLC which has maps. On xbox already and soon to be on ps3 tomorrow i think.

MW2 was my first FPS on the PS3 but I've enjoyed it to the point where if everyone else is gonna buy it, I will too. Online play with friends is the best bit.

Really? I need to have go on these games to see what their like.
I think COD MOD 2 is awesome, are the game's mentioned BC2 and MOH (whatever that is) are they really much better?

Battlefield Bad Company 2 is far superior game to COD series. COD is simply a blood bath, hold fire and you win :P. Bad Company 2 is a much more realistic game, huge maps etc... The have put bullet drop in the game etc. And of course... you can fly choppers, drive tanks/jeeps/hummers etc...

I think COD is going same route as NFS and eventually they will ruin it  :smug:

I agree about battlefield - bad company but then its quite similar to Operation Flashpoint - Dragon Rising

On Pre-order waiting for it to be released! Looks insane! The wager matches look like pure banter!

I rekon the order goes in MW1 WAW then MW2, thought mw2 was more just more mental than the others, mental in a bad way!

Is that bc one shot thing, like hardcore mode on cod? If so I may get it, used to do my head in shooting people twice with a sniper rifle!

Title: Re: Call of Duty - Black Ops
Post by: Agreeable Slick on 03 November 2010, 08:01
At the moment I haven't even bothered looking at getting black ops, mainly because I brought MOH and it just blew me away. Sooooo much better than MW2, and makes you actually look for people as a pose to seeing a kill cam and going hunting for them. Or launching a random grenade at that sort of area.

MW2 is a good crack if you just want to run and gun, but having to duck and cover on MOH is more realistic, and the game play is just better, and more free flowing.
Title: Re: Call of Duty - Black Ops
Post by: Devilz on 03 November 2010, 12:12
I don't agree on run and gun point mate, it depends which server you are playing on and what mode? All modes are different in gameplay

Golden eye will be better!

From what I've seen +1.  However I do thing they have ruined it somewhat by changing Brosnan for Craig on the voices/Character.

TBH, I may even just buy an N64 and the game.

Probably work out cheaper as well.

Not getting my copy for awhile
Paid ages ago for a preorder from a powerseller on ebay and then got this email at the week end, cant afford to get one from the shop at the mo either

Hi everyone, I am very sorry to announce that owing to Paypal and Ebay limiting my account access on Weds (3rd November) last week I am not going to be able to fulfil any of the 1521 orders I have taken since I started the Black Ops listings. I am selling a Gran Turismo pre-order and because the release date changed from 5th November to 10th December I had several claims made against my Paypal account, which threw my Paypal and Ebay accounts into review with limited access, which basically means I could not move any funds around. On Thursday I needed to send my Paypal funds to my business account to fund the purchase of Black Ops from my supplier, who do not accept Paypal. For the purposes of the review Paypal selected 8 transactions at random, all Black Ops, and I had to prove to Paypal first of all that I owned the game, and secondly that I had posted the game. As I needed the paypal funds to own the game and until I owned the game I could not post it I was in an impossible situation and was unable to complete the review to Paypals satisfaction, and so could not send the funds to my Business Account, which meant I could not pay my supplier, which meant I have no games to supply and I am now faced with refunding everyone. I will start to process refunds today and work through them as quickly as possible, unfortunately I had before the 3rd sent some of the funds to my business account and I will need to get this back before I can complete all of the refunds. I have had to cut myself off from communication since Weds, mainly because I was getting hundreds of requests a day to supply the game early. My contact details are my home address and telephone number, which I would hope will reassure anyone who thinks this is some giant scam. I have been an Ebay seller of note for some years as anyone can see from looking at my feedback, and obviously this outcome is a huge disappointment to me. I am letting you know now so you can make alternative arrangements to get the game, I would recommend Play.com who are doing it for £42.69 with free delivery. I would be grateful if you would give me the opportunity to refund rather than put claims in via Paypal at this stage as a large number of claims may further complicate my Paypal relationship.

I had a similar issue - chap on one of the Golf forums promised the same and had his accout held by paypal. He still promises delivery though it may be a day late. A real annoyance since last year he managed to get MW2 out a day early.

Even now, online, friends are playing Black Ops

I had a bit of a result.  Forgot all about it, and at about ten past midnight turned my xbox on to see my friends playing it.  I rush out, jump in the car and head out, ringing places on the way.  Because I'm that much of a loser.

I ring Tesco in Chelmsford - massive queues, can't hold copies, I won't get a copy.
I ring the second Tesco in Chelmsford - same story.
I ring the local Asda - Same story.
I ring Game - same story.

I then have a brain wave, try the smaller Tesco's in Maldon.  I ring them, no queue at all and they hold me a copy.  I walk in and out in less than 5 minutes with game in hand.  Good times.

ITS A MAP PACK, i got it from a gypo console shop last night (they released it at a little bit past 11 cos they got bored of waiting) but still was only £40.
I passed game on the way home to and there was a line out of the little shopping precinct (bearing in mind that is probs a line of 50 people already, then out the door and down to a set of traffic lights about a further 50-60 people, i was just like foook that. Then the shop at then end of my street was open and had a big black ops thing and one customer, though it would be pre order only but she said they had loads!

Got the game today. Played earlier on and it was fine. Playing this evening, it was near impossible to have clan matches.

Invited my friends into a party, and either we couldn't all join into the same game, or we all joined and then had connection problems throughout.

The lag is offputting - is it due to too large a map? The RC car toy is ridiculous and should have been a 7/8-killstreak reward.

Had there been no lag and no problems with joining games/involving parties, this could have been a rewarding game. At the mo, I'm so vexed, I keep thinking of breaking the plastic case and the CD into sharp edged shards and shoving them up Treyarch's ass!

AFAIK Infinity Ward disbanded and dont exist anymore, which is a shame..

MW + MW2 much better than WaW and Black Ops

A different company made the odd and even numbers, so MW and MW2 are made by one company, cod 3, waw and black ops by another.

I played it again this morning and it was okay, better than last night.

There's still lag from gameplay. Is this from the recording feature? Can it be deactivated?

Didn't have any problems or servers today, so no getting kicked out before or during a game.

I do like some of the levels, esp Jungle. It really makes it feel like a 'Nam game. I swear I had flashbacks at one point. Still a PITA that it takes 9-12 bullets to kill someone (m16, 3 bullets per shot, requires 3-4 shots). The tomahawk thing was funny for a few seconds.

I need the equivalent of the M4, ACR and AUG. Anyone know which ones they would be?

Black ops is in 3d if you have tv yes!

I need the equivalent of the M4, ACR and AUG. Anyone know which ones they would be?

AUG is on black ops and is unlockable, Galil is what i use ATM, less recoil than anything else ive tried, but think Commando will be closest the ACR. Sadly, i dont think there will be a M4 replacement

Been killed a few times with the AK47 so looking forward to trying that, havent unlocked it yet

its only cus the ps3 is harder to make so for than 360 so its easier for developers to make the 360 game then port, GTA4 was made a good 6 months before the ps3

Being new to xbox I guess this is some sort of hack box that let's you play copied games. Not really what I'm after as I prefer to keep thing legit. Just looking for good offers from the supermarkets etc.

Yeah! Steve_PD, dan_apps and myself were trying to play the other night, we were in a party and then searched for a game and one or two of us were kicked out. The workaround for now is joining the session in progress for whoever is booted out. Worked fine after that.

Normally at least one person makes into a game when a party fails, then the people who got kicked out go onto the mate that is in the game and join his progress. If you dont know how to join someone process, its just there where you invite people to play games etc If the lobby is full though obviously it wont work !

You won't be laughing for long, early players are reporting it's "OK" which is hardly high praise for a game that's taken over 5 years to reach the shelves. One of my mates reckons he'll be trading it in in a couple of weeks as he has more fun playing Forza 3.

Is the same for black ops though, first few days that came out everyone was saying it was sh!t, but now people seem to like it more!  To be fair not too fussed what other people are reporting at the moment, either il like the game or not!

I'd say get it slick. I umm'd and ahh'd for about 2 weeks as I had MW2 and so did you lot. Found it hard to justify the money when I already had an FPS to play with you lot.

Succumbed, bought it and not regretted it one bit. I seem to be better at it than MW2 and I just think it's a much better game. Briefly tried the Zombies bit and that's a well cool extra.

Horney your same as me mate, i'm better at the new black ops than MW2, why would that be?

For me personally I reckon on MW2 I was too heavily reliant on the heart beat sensor and that made my game really slow and got me killed alot. Kinda glad the heartbeat sensor isn;t in this game as it's made me a better player.

Last night I was amazed as I had one game where i had over 3 on the ratio thingy, I was over the moon and called it a night  wanted to retire at the top of my game
I'm still quite sh*te though
Title: Re: Call of Duty - Black Ops
Post by: dTEA on 25 November 2010, 20:31
Sorry but the amount of lag on most of the games is appalling. Just CBA with it. MW2 destroys it in game play, map size, weapons etc. BOPS feels like WAW with old school ww2 weapons

Wouldn't mind that's mr saying it with some games as high as 7:1 ratio...all depends on the lag though, and too many games are red dot connections :unhappy:

If I get it, then no doubt I will be playing a lot with you guys that have it so convince me to spend £40 I could find other stuff to buy with.

* Me and Chuff like it and don't seem to suffer any connection probelms.
* Maps are better and bigger than MW2 (except Nuketown which is tiny but utterly awesome).
* Radio Controlled buggie bombs
* Single player is way better than MW2
* Napalm Strikes!
* Flame thrower (although other COD games may have had this, I don't know as I'm a COD newb)
* Zombies

Like I said a few posts back, I really wrangled with myself about buying it as it's not cheap, I'm skint and I already had MW2 but I do not regret it one bit. It's without a doubt my fave non racing game.

When it first came out, I lovd it - I was slaughtering others because my style has always been run'n'gun and hence others who were campers etc had to deal with that. I've seen some of them camping up on the pylon on Array. My KDRs were immense, especially as I wasn't as good on MW2.

But the issues (especially since the 'fix') are worse:
- I can no longer join any friends in a party (nor they me), unless I join the game they're in and I cross my fingers we're on the same side
- huge issues with host migration, especially when someone leaves. I've had games where everything's completed, our team has won but someone leaves, causing migration, which fails and we're back in the lobby. Without XP!
- lag issues - there's a constant tiny but noticeable lag as you play.

These are on PS3 and if they fix the game, I will return.

There a few glitches. On one of the 'nam levels the game just froze and the trigger point for the next part of the level (someone speaking) wouldnt happen was stuck. Had to restart the level. Only happened once mind.

I'm first prestige,  There can only be 26 zombies on the map at once so you need to round them all up and kill them off in small groups or they spawn everywhere, I got to level 26 it took bloody ages

Thats a good effort. Not played too much zombies on this one. Only had a quick go.

I do it with some mates and we have got it down to a tee. You need to unlock ALL the doors and just keep doing laps killing the zombies as you go. As you can imagine it gets quite hard later on into the levels.

Probably be coming back to the xbox elite on black ops very soon, found a loada games to trade in so probs gonna pop to town and get in on xbox today. Getting bored of playing on my own on my ps3 due to my mates never being on at the moment!

So yeah get ready for me on xbox again

I'm fast falling out of love with the game to be honest. MW2 played so much better. MW1 better than that.

Just lacking inspiration on what to trade it in for.

MW2 - Just more playable, I found that I could play it for hours and not get bored. Maps were better, just over all was better in my opinion.

MW1 - I loved this game, which is why I haven't got rid of it and more recently, have started to play it more. Plus the kills were a bit more realistic i.e. kill cams the bullets actually hit you and required some accuracy to play.

Black ops - I just don't really like it. Kill cams are always ominous, people scoping on their gun don't even need to look at a person to kill them. The maps are small, guns appear to be a bit pony (I.E. I emptied an entire clip of a handgun into someone and they survived - I hasten to add, every bullet hit as they were standing still), and completely rubbish add ons. Again IMO.

That's fair enough, I was interested as you've played a fair few of the CoD titles and MoH and I've only played this and MW2 for 2 weeks. I've not got much to compare Black Ops to. The last FPS I played was the original Doom back in the mid 90's so I'm a bit behind the times!

Took 2 days off work and queued at midnight for this and am disappointed (COD geek/lover ).   Was expecting Mw2 gameplay, with new maps to play on with different guns.

I played MW till 7th prestige - loved it
played MW2 till 8th prestige - loved it
played BO to level 48 and think ill give up.

Perks seem to be messed up a bit, and the killstreaks.

If it was labelled as a different game, it wouldnt be that bad, just doesnt seem to warrant the Call of Duty title  :undecided:

The trouble is people comparing it to MW2 when its not.
the game does lag from time to time but thats down to your or the hosts connection. 99% of the time its fine for me (unless am playing with Cookie)
MW2 had far more glitches and exploits which they took months to sort out

I completely acknowledge this and agree that it isnt supposed to be ''MW3'' but after MW2, i cant help feeling this game has taken a step backwards.

However i didnt play COD5 much online, didnt like that either, and should have realised the same developers would have made similar games

I sometimes had the same issue in MW2. Would switch to hardcore because it was easier to kill people!

Treyarch produced COD 3 and World at War, Infinity Ward produced MW and MW2...and it does show...all of the Treyarch games suffer/ed from lag. At least the MWs ones don't mean missed shots but visually on your screen they hit!

Up to level 36 already and very little game play time, but it feels flat, except a few levels. Nuketown is sooooo lagged it's untrue, no matter who goes and hosts

Jeez I think this happened to me the other night I was in a game and shot the first guy, next thing I knew I was getting allsorts of awards and it kept saying I was going up a level until I was on about 50, then the game stopped with something like unable to connect to host, whilst on the screen that shows your stats of the game it said I got 300,000 points for that one kill

But the minute the game ended I didn't get naff all and everything went back to normal. Some weird sh*t, is this the kind of the thing that is mentioned on this BBC link?

I've also prestiged a few weeks ago and thought WTF this is useless.
As Alan said i'd much rather have all my guns and stuff rahter than a poxy emblem that kinda makes me look as though i'm better than I am ( as i'm not brill at the game so don't wanna come accross in a lobby with a fancy emblem that makes folk think i'm sh!t hot when i'm not  )

I waited so long to get the Commando gun I really wanted, after getting it it wasn;t long after I prestiged and now i'm missing it :(

Back on level 35 I think so won't be long and won't be prestiging again, the 8 year old american kids that give out stick for not prestiging can go get fooked by Michael Jackson for all I care

Ive always found it a little slow joining lobbies. Just something u have to put up with.

I've also been finding slot of people leaving games. Probably as they are getting their ass kicked!

Anyone else on Sky having very hit and miss connection issues?

I can play the game fine (usually) although my connection just seems to fluctuate between good, mediocre, crap, crappier. Mostly the last 3. Then again it doesn't seem to affect how I play, can still run around without lag, not all of my bullets register, but it's do-able.

Done port forwarding, and rebooted the router more times than I care to remember.

suggestions. Changing ISP is not an option.
Title: Re: Call of Duty - Black Ops
Post by: Shady Pioneer on 20 January 2011, 12:39
I wouldn't change ISP Slick as Sky are very good, although I am stumped on what your connection problems could be. Have you done some tests on your computer to make sure you're getting a good ping?
Title: Re: Call of Duty - Black Ops
Post by: JC on 20 January 2011, 12:46
as shady said slick Ping test on ya pc

if thats iffy then its router / cabling issues

Both jonny boy and I are 200 yards apart on the married patch on a CRAP broadband connection ( less than a mega )yet are always on 3 or 4 green bars so you have an issue somewhere

is the actual b/band provided  good. ?

Aye, done as many checks as I can think of. It doesn't affect anything else to my knowledge, will be giving forza a crack tonight and see what happens there. Also downloaded a couple of things last night at 900kb/s + so I know the speed is there...

Various topics about it are on the net, but no one seems to have found or know the reason. :undecided:

Aye it's wired, don't trust wireless ironically for gaming. I'll swap some cables around when I get in, but I cannot see why it would suddenly have broken down. Still, stranger things have happened. Just need to dig a cable out now.

I used to be wired with my old 360 but I bought a new style 360 not long ago, with the N wireless adaptor built in, along with the N BT Homehub and I've never had a problem. I know it's each to their own though.

What was your ping coming through as?

And if it isn't the ethernet cable then maybe it's to do with Black Ops and the way it runs online (we are awaiting another patch).
Title: Re: Call of Duty - Black Ops
Post by: Agreeable Slick on 20 January 2011, 13:11
I can't remember off the top of my head. I'll have another check when I get in tonight.

Mine is one of the older 2nd gen ones (the white job with a hdmi port on it) so no doubt within the next 12 months I'll get another as my warrenty on this one runs out soon, and it will probably break.
Title: Re: Call of Duty - Black Ops
Post by: Shady Pioneer on 20 January 2011, 13:14
Okay, well check you ping, as that could be a deciding factor with a game like Black Ops. If that is good and it's not the cable, just go wirelss.
Title: Re: Call of Duty - Black Ops
Post by: AlanD on 20 January 2011, 13:39
Slick, I had very similar issues to you.

My internet was working fine, could download things at silly speeds but when playing games it would lag and be crap. To some extent I still get some issues but what it ended up being was too much noise in my downstream cable from my ISP. Spoke to Virgin Media who did some checks and idetified that I had too much noise. A Virgin "engineer" came over and fitted a transducer to the back of my modem to reduce the noise levels and its been considerably better since.

I can now check my noise levels (Telewests original commissioned rates were +/- 6dB, mine was -20dB) by entering the IP address of my modem (along with a default username and password which Virgin provided me with) and interrogating it, Im guessing you can do a similar thing with Sky? May be worth a call if nothing else.

I am also assuming ADSL (which is what Sky is at its BT?) and my Virgin Medai cable service work in very similar ways? No idea  :undecided:

I like the PS3, not a fan of the massive 360 controllers!! I must say only 2 advantages the 360 has over the PS!

1: That you can have a chat thing going on with pals whilest in a game.

2: You can play music rather then game music when playing games!

Post by: Dec on 25 January 2011, 13:16
Can't you do the chat when in game? I know theres an option for it, but I haven't tried 'in game'

You can also have music playing, but only on certain games I think. Cod doesn't let you, and again, haven't tried anything else lol

Got Medal Of Honour free with the ps3, but not even taken the disk out yet lol mostly COD, haven't even touched GT5 in a week lol

Think I'm going to sack this game off. Connection issues are doing my head in, and to be honest, it's not really keeping me interested. Just go and save some pennies on a trade in for something else.

Edit: Sky Users (http://helpforum.sky.com/t5/Technical-Issues/Problem-connecting-to-Xbox-Live/td-p/14805/page/3) this seems to be a well known and documented problem, which sky claim to be pulling their finger out about. We shall see just how effective it is.

360 controller is the best controller I've ever used. You play a racing game on the Playstation and using the controller is awkward using the rear buttons. Try the 360 and your fingers fit snuggly onto the rear triggers.

Received although I'm waiting to hear back from the seller first!! (does he want to sell or not??)

and to keep it on topic

Is black ops really worth buying? (I have played a bit of mw2 and enjoyed it and as the wifes going on Holiday for 6 weeks I will have lots of spare time!)

Gonna jump on and play it in a mo while the missus and kids are up in bed, not interested in the multiplayer game any more as I can't be arsed to waste my life being constantly killed by 12 year olds that have got about 48 hours of solid game time in within the first week...

Not triedthat gun yet, the AUG is brill with extended mag and supressor.

The AUG is muchos better than the previous guns you get, but the AK is even better. It looks sh!t though

Red Dot scope & Extended Mag for me, I like being able to snipe (easier) from a distance and get my Long Shot achievements, and not run out of ammo as often as I usually find without it I have to reload at an inconvenient time

I also play with Scavenger ( love picking up the extra 'nades and lobbing them around  ) , War Lord Pro (see above), Marathon the standard running distance is just way to lame.

OLYMPIA - great gun , pisses people of when you kill them.

SKORPION - Dual Wield - very good short range.

HS10 - another good gun.

These three are for more of challenge , rather then normal ak47u , famas ect..

Post by: dan_apps on 21 March 2011, 21:38
yuck to most those guns.

famas + dual mags (as they usually give u more ammo than extended)
or
commando with suppressor

with either scavenger pro or ghost pro
slight of hand pro
marathon pro

but lately since the new patch has sorted things its been

psg1 with variable scope (as im getting the hang of the quick scoping which used to be impossible in this game)
secondary cz75
and a tomahawk

but got bored of this game now to be fair

Might get MW2 as I have a £15 amazon voucher to use up, and can't think of anything else to get from amazon :undecided:

Well...I'd like to say how much I enjoyed playing on my Xbox this evening after a few months off.

However, the console I got of of ebay yesterday turned out to be a dud.

The dreaded 3 red rings on startup, straight out the box.

You barsteward.

What made me even more angry was that I was going to give it to my 8 yr old newphew. His Xbox has just failed witha faulty disc drive.

See what the seller says to my curt email demanding a refund.

Jonathan.

Get COD4 for the PC and join a league playing competitively. Bring a lot more enjoyment to the game instead of playing mindless publuc games.
