Title: mk6 tyre pressures
Post by: Gasman361 on 03 May 2010, 14:43
question why are the tyre pressures at 38psi for normal driving on the mk6 where as on the three mk5 gti,s i,ve had with 18" monza,s the tyre pressure for normal load has been 32psi . has vw put the wrong sticker on the fuel filler cap. i must admit driving with 38psi is rather a hard ride , and to me 32psi gives a more overall comfortable ride . your comments would be appreciated

38 psi / 2.6 bar sounds right to me, no idea why the mk5 had lower tyre pressure. I'm running 2.7 bar. I don't think the mk5 was any lighter then the mk6. If you're running the right pressure the tyre should wear out evenly on the middle and on the sides. Another good thing to be aware of is temperature. As the weather gets hotter the tyre pressure will increase. I had to let out some pressure on my BMW after the winter. Also be careful with checking pressure at the gas station. I've encountered a few where the pressure gauge were way off.

According to the sticker on my mk6 you can have up to 2.8 bar / 40,6 psi if you lugging around 4-5 people and baggage. My sticker is not on the fuel cap but on the driver sides door.

Thanks for that just making sure I didn't have the wrong tyre pressure sticker on the fuel cap.

41 front / 40 back here as well. According to the sticker on the car you should'nt have any less then 38 psi on the 18".

Anyone here know the specific weight on the front vs the back?

Mine were on 2.45 to 2.5 all round.
Was very smooth in comfort but felt like driving a pudding.
Yesterday, I raised it to 2.6 as recommended. Ride a bit harder, but more controlled in 'comfort' and less loping. Also, tyre noise significantly much less.
Will play around with pressures and see whether something between 2.5 and 2.6 will satisfy my sensitive self!
BTW: Just managed to avoid a massive pothole. Went back and measured it! 2.5 feet long, 2 feet wide and 1 foot deep!

Where did you get 32psi from ??

All my Mk V Gti's said 2.6 bar for normal driving = 38 psi
