My tdi 115 has started making funny sounds recently. When i pull off in 1st gear i get a rumble sound from somewhere in the engine bay, its only in the low down revs, it sometimes occurs when ive changed gear and im accelerating through the next gear. sounds like somethings loose but ive had allok round the engine bay and nothing appears to be loose/hanging off. Hope it isnt the gearbox/diff. Any common issues which follow these symptons?
Thanks

Any ideas people???? I started gettin a squeeling sound today aswell when pulling off, it disapeared after i got out of 1st gear :S
-
Does it also do it while turning at low speeds, possibly worse?

Yea think so, well drop it off with my mate 2moz to let him check the pulley/tensioer all over. My belt needs doing soon anyway so will prob just get a new pully from vw and get it fitted. hopefully solve the hole horrilbe vibration/noise issue.
-
also forgot to mention that i desicovered another sound today, when i let off the throttle you can hear a clunk sound, am i right in thinking this is the lower dog bone engine mount worn?

i,m willing to put money on it being your DMF. just had mine replaced in my tdi130 two vweeks ago. symptoms sound identical. whats it sound like at tick-over?.
-
Oh god, please no :(
How much did that set you back?? It sounds ok on tick over
-

so did mine for a while. but by the time i got it changed it was knocking about like mental at tick over. while driving and at stanstill the whole car was shaking! haha seats cup holder dashboard you name it! cost me 600 fitted yous mit be cheaper though with it being a 115. the cars as good as new now.
-
that was with a new clutch as well. forgot to say. my uncle fitted it said i mite as well do the clutch while it was strippd down.
-
Well im very confused now, took the car to the garage this morning to let them check it over, had a phone a few hours later saying they can't find any thing wrong with it, the bloke test drive it for a good 10 mile trip and said he thourght it was all very smooth etc. He has checked allengine mounts and the flywheel and says its all good. So maybe its just me used to silky smooth petrols :S
-
How did he check the flywheel??
Gearbox needs to come out for him to do that
-
Not sure mate  But he said that if the flyweel was on the way out then i would be getting bad vibration through the clutch pedal and it would have a knocking sound on tickover and when pulling away.
Think i may just run it on untill i start getting a very bad knocking sound and then replace flywheel and clutch.

I get a sort of rumbling sound as well but i'm ignoring it as my flywheel is only 30K miles old  normally disappears once the car is upto temperature :undecided:
I am giving it some stick though

I get a horrible knocking noise on idle aswell but only when it's cold.
It makes a few knowcks then stops then a few more knows then stops, when it stops it's like a 3-5 second gap then knocks again.
I also get a judder at times when sitting idle but not that badder judder.
Jeez it can't my flywheel and clutch fingers crossed as it's been in for like 15k or 20k miles at most. I fooking hope the fookers did change what they told my brother they changed. Cost my brother about £800 but thank god for extended warranty :)

Yea i think im just being abit paranoid tbh, but i think something is loose some where as i still get a aslight rattle/rumble noise which wasnt there a few weeks ago. It literally sounds like a sound panel loose or something. But oh well, i class this as an "ongoing fault"
Getting the beuty remapped in a couple of weeks

Where you getting it mapped?
If you go r-tech they'll give you car a once over before mapping it, as guys on the forum have told me that if you already got a problem the re-map will probably multiply your problem making it worse.
Which actually may be a good this for you as that way you kind find out what the problem is. But fingers crossed for you that it's not a costly problem.
-
Was going to get it mapped by SWICT as its just down the road from me where as r-tech is a little bit far sadly. Im kin of hoping that the remap will help me idenify the prob, but as you said hopefully wont be too expensive one
