Title: My new steel grey toy!
Post by: Jimble on 01 May 2010, 15:48
Picked it up on the 17th of april and absolutely love it, the grey isn't to everyones taste but love the way it seems to change colour slightly in different lights, i had a steel grey mk5 before this but the new paint seems a bit deeper with more pop in the sun, i was all for just having the standard 17's in the beginning but i'm pleased with the shadows and they really look the nuts on this colour! imo cos i know that not everyone likes em. i went for the rcd 510 more for the appearence than the function but love the way it works, it's a peice of cake finding tracks and albums on my memory stick. I decided against the acc in the end but the jury is still out on that! i find it a bit choppy on the m'way but it's fine for the twisty roads, i think time will tell though, i've got quite a few speed bumps round my way and it seems 'OK'. went for the rear view camera cos for £150 it seemed rude not to and it's a great piece of kit, i like the way it still see's quite well when it's dark which is really useful, it's got more than enough power for me coming from a 1.4s with 80 screaming horses so doubt i'll be looking at a map, i've got a couple of gripes with it but i'll post about that in the other thread, photo's are from my phone so not the best and i'm no photographer so soz.
Enjoy.......Hopefully

And i tried something a bit different with the inserts, what ya think?

I was getting really worried as you seemed to suddenly disappear.
You could have been dead and we would never would have known.
There must be a mechanism for forum members to be kept aware of this!

Anyway, back to the matter of slightly greater importance than your wellbeing!
Your car looks beautiful.
Congratulations!
I hope you have many exciting jaunts with it.

Love the pictures even though you so bashfully admonish yourself on your photography.
Now what's that under the inserts of your seat adjuster levers? Are you trying to trick us with the tartan underlay?

Don't disappear again as I do miss your amusing posts and our banter!

Thanks am1w for the nice comments and the concern for my wellbeing (i think), i'll remember to let you know if away in future!
The inserts are actually the image from this thread http://www.golfgtiforum.co.uk/index.php?topic=138111.0 shrunk down and lightened a bit, then printed and cut to fit.

Fantastic colour. Seems like the Monza Shadows were designed for that colour. And the photos aren't too bad either.

I do quite like where you went with the GTI inserts. It's original and fresh. I just fitted mine today with the red tape underneath (but my car is red).

Jimble: Spray the rear diffuser and side skirts Steel Grey. What do you think?

Looks good in that colour. Steel Grey or Silver were the two colours I was interested in before I ordered mine

Not sure it would make much difference tbh mate, although i am seriously tempted by the LED's it's just that gap at the bottom people keep mentioning thats putting me off :undecided:.

I am having mine sprayed Gun Metal Grey when the Honda(!) Bodyshop manager gets round to colour matching it.
Yes, the 2 mm gap has put me off completely. Better to spend money on Bi-Xenons. I have removed my front retro-fit ones as they did not look quite right. No cost penalty!
I will speak to Darren about the Bi-Xenons. He can probably fit them whilst doing my RNS510 + Bluetooth.
It never seems to end.

Ended up ordering Carbon Grey in the end. I think the salesman was getting sick of us changing our minds at the finish.

That's half way between Black and Steel Grey. A true compromise!

Too true! We've got a black car (our second) at the moment and we said never again because they are so hard to keep clean. Was going back to Silver as our Silver cars were easy to keep clean, then saw the Steel Grey in a std Golf and quite liked it. At the end we went half way as you say!

Jimbles looks spot on though....

Looks ace in the Steel (United) Grey with the Shadows.

This would have been my colour choice also, and I too had a mk5 in that colour.
Discreet, classy and doesn't show the muck too badly.

I don't either but as you say ETTO. When are you getting your splitter and sides done?

SteveP has another one of his bulk by LEDs on so are you going to get a set, I think Wolfgangwould look the bees knees with a lovely redtail .

RNS510+Bluetooth = £1000
Footrests + inserts = £100
Bi-Xenons = £1100 (if Darren can, if not rear LEDs £500)
Colour coding rear diffuser + side mouldings (inc parts) = £250
Total = £2450 (approx) :rolleyes:

No, I don't think I will dress Wolfgang's pretty little arse this time round. But by tomorrow I might change my mind! Boys can be girls!

Like the sound of some of those mods, can you not add bluetooth to the RCD510? how come your inserts and footrest comes to £100 my inserts and footrest came to about £50 from  Rich on ebay aka Golf something or other.  You know you should have got the xenons at the time or ordering silly boy.

Probably less than £100, but I am past caring!
The only thing that really annoys me is that I did not order Bi-Xenons. Bloody bisexual lights!
My car still has the RCD310 so I need to get that upgraded to the RNS510. Am waiting for Darren to get in touch with me regarding this.
HURRY UP DARREN, PLEASE!

You'll have to take on a few private patients needing their lugs seeing to  then you should have the dosh for your mods.   Wolfgang is going to look wonderful when he is finished.

You should be my business manager.
Have the dosh but am too tight to spend it.
Doing as you say already.
It's a roaring business I must say.
The 50% is killing me!

Congrats on your new car. looks great!

Does anyone know if there are any interior photos about by any chance? I've booked a test drive but have to wait 3 weeks and I am getting a little impatient now because once I know how the car feels then I will be putting down a deposit but I can't wait to know what the inside looks like  :nerd:

That is all
