Managed to get a set of 4, 16 x 7" 928 rims for ?135 on my mate and would like to know how much arch work i will need to do to get them on. My 89 gti is lowered 80mm with no platic arch trims but arch's rolled front and back.
Tyres will be 195/40/16 when i get them.

Well got my adapters on friday. Got a tyre taken off one of the wheels this morning and tried them on the car.
Adapter in place (20mm). Nice shiny suspension?

Front wheel in place.

Rear wheels on. May need a slight spacer as back of wheel about 3mm off axle.

Will go under the arch's easy just going to get them rolled when it goes into the bodyshop next weekend.

Looking good matey can't wait to get my design 90's back ... we'll have to start a section for porsche rims at this rate !
What adapters (brand)did you get, and more importantly what width did you get ?? I think my fronts are 6j but the rears are 8j width !! I've only got a 40mm drop so might not be as much of an issue for me - any tips would be useful as I have to have them on before the show season starts !
-
The adapters are 20mm thick. got them off vw speed http://www.vwspeed.co.uk/product_info.php?cPath=10_19_75&products_id=84 ?160 inc postage.
928 rims have a offset of 65mm so with the adapter it sits at 45mm so tuck under the arch's nicely.
Design 90's are 50-55mm offset i think depending on width so they will sit around 10mm further out than mine with the same adapters.
-
looks wiked.
Wish i didnt sell my 90's now. ohh well next time
-
That's a cracking price - cheers dubs !!!
Good call on the offset too - I didn't think the 928 rims would have a different offset as most manufacturers have their 'standard' and stick to it.
My design 90's are 52.5 so with a 20mm spacer I'm expecting it to be just fine. I can feel my credit card quivering ... must be patient !

Great to see some new pics Paul, looks like the project is still making steady progress, hopefully I'll get to see the transformation in the flesh one day.

Getting there slowly now as waiting for mate to sort out the bodywork. He keeps booking in work then saying can you wait another week
All the main problems are sorted mostly now. got the replacement rear electric windows sorted and rear foglight working. Electrics at the back are all sorted now after somebody had made a right mess of putting the towbar electrics in. just need 2 rear doors realy.
Hopefully if al the panels are on and put in primer before christmas i will be stripping the rest of the interior and engine bay ready for spraying in jan some time.
