I was wondering what my options are here. I currently have the G60 02A gearbox and the ratios are very short. Cruising along at 70mph means the engine is around 3500rpm, then up to 4000rpm at 80mph. This is 5th gear.
I heard that a 5th gear from a TDi can be used or a 6th gear from another VAG gearbox....
I also heard you can leave the box in and do it....
Can anyone shed some light on this, would nice to have a 5th gear to cruise in.
Thanks :)

are you sure its a g60 box? the one on mine has a long 5th, its 1st and 2nd that are too short
ill have to double check but 80 is deffo under 3500rpm.
you are probably better off choosing another 02a box and using that instead of rebuilding, less hassle and cheaper!

i heard you can do it with the box in.... i thought it was a little more common :D

you really want to strip a box down rather than swap it?
http://www.clubgti.com/forum/showthread.php?t=115595
ratios are there^
put them into a gear calculator to work out in gear speeds and chose a better box

What code is your G60 gearbox?
Try these links for 5th gear swops:

I have a g60 in a Mk3 with gearbox from passat with 9A engineand it is very short, too.
I am planning to put a gearbox from GTI 16v mk3, I heard that it has a bit longer gears
