Hi guys, looking for a half decent cheap induction kit that will give me a bit of noise, also how do u go about de-oiling a filter as I have heard that an oiled one can screw up your maf.
Any help would be great :)

Ebay CAI - £55. Filter comes un-oiled. I've had one fitted for nearly 2 years with no problems other than i need to replace the air filter as the original has gonne a bit crusty.

Got a link mate, nd did the replacement filter cost? Also any noise heard from turbo spool and DV?

Stick to smoothing the airbox and using a Pipercross panel filter.
What engine do you have?

I had an eBay carbon universal jobby on for a few days. Was definitely loud.

Yeah loads of turbo spool and loud DV noise. Going to order a green cotton replacement filter, for one the right size it comes to about £70 - will be ordering mine next month probably.
Also it came with a fairly cheap rubber coupling hose to join the alloy pipe to the MAF which is fine, but i've just ordered a good quality silicone replacement today so it fits in with my blue hoses :cool:

Best to spend a little extra on pipercross or K&N. They will last alot longer and be better for your car.

Put some ICI Genclean in a bucket, cold, and dip filter in if it is oiled.
Also tricoethylene if you can source some.. (probably not though anymore, lethal stuff :evil:)
Did it with my ebay special just to make sure..

There's nothing at all wrong with the e-bay CAI's. i've had one for nearly a year I think. Only think is it's a bit dirty where it sits behind the bumper.

+1 - They seem to get bad press for no apparent reason other than they came off eBay. Yeah the filter isn't a known brand but it does the job. I always planned on replacing the filter with a green cotton one after a while as barry-gti said above, they do tend to get dirty due to their location behind the bumper.
It's worth the £55 for the CAI kit purely for the alloy relocation pipe!

and the noise, mines been fine, think i paid 56 delivered for mine
and might as well cut the back of the passenger side vent while you're taking it apart - better air feed

Haha awsome, I see what u mean about the pipe. I take it the small filter is for oil breather, but what is the small pipe coming off of the main intake for?

The small pipe attaches to your SAI (secondary air intake) system via a length of supplied hose but is only applicable to AUM engine codes so you don't have to worry about this. The small breather filter is to be fitted here if you don't have the SAI system on your car (which you don't). To be honest it would be better to block it off altogether with a small bit of pipe and nut in the end or something.

To the filter? Not really, it is what it is, relocates the filter down behind the bumper in cold air. As someone mentioned above, mod your lower passenger side black plastic grill in the bumper to allow air to flow direct to the filter. I replaced mine with Hofele grills which don't have the horizontal slats but have a round opening in exactly the right place :wink:

Also got some pics form when i fitted it. Please ignore the rubbish red connectors, its a bit of pot luck wheather you get red or blue, and tbh they're not the best quality but they have done the job for nearly 2 years! My shiny new blue hose connector arrived today so will be fitting that later this eve :cool:

Did you have to move battery over slightly? Looks cramped down there on mine..

another quick question on this on my agu there is somethink with wire goin to it on the airbox its self now i know its not the maf so any ideas what it is and were would it go if i fitted one of these kits

Has been said before but cant remember, but basically whatever it is, it was mounted on the airbox to keep cool so best to be placed somewhere far away from the hot bits :smiley:

and also requires if possible the heatsink compound leaving on the rear of the unit or some adding as this removes excess heat from the module :wink:

Some people have had to lose the battery cover and just have the battery in its little jacket thingy but i was adamant i wanted to keep the battery cover so i just moved the battery over a tiny bit and messed with it till it fit! You are correct though, it is a bit tight down there!

snapped off removed my original air funnel thing and squeezed this one in. Alot louder on turbo spool up :evil:

Zipped tied it around the alloy pipe with conductor touching pipe, to be honest, before it was hanging down, swinging in the breeze :lipsrsealed:

best thing to do with it is to make up an aluminium heat sink and mount it somewhere securely.
i have aslso considered dropping my piper x panel filter and swap for a cheapo ebay filter.. not sure if it would be the wrong thing to do though.. :undecided:

If you like sound of engines, its definately the right thing to do, sounds amazing the turbo spooling up so loud.
Cone filters make impressive grunt too.
If you really like the noise, remove sound deading from bonnet too :lipsrsealed:

+1 Barry, makes me laugh when people pay £200 for a Carbonio, just becasue its carbon fibre doesn't warrant the price, plus it comes with a "no brand" special filter (like the eBay version).

Exactly mate, worth a try and you can always sell it on if you don't like it :smiley:
Like i said its been fine for 2 years on my car but its only real shortcoming is the cheapo rubber connector and SAI pipe they supply - something you can always upgrade for a little extra :smiley:
As for me wanting to replace my filter i'm sure whatever filter you have fitted down there ain't gonna last forever given British winters (and summers for that matter!!)

I fitted one of these to mine today (AUM). How did you guys fit the silver adapter to the secondary injection pipe? I couldnt get it to fit onto the pipe. It looks a tad too small.
