Title: Collected my new GTI last week
Post by: Captain Sensible on 27 April 2010, 12:15
Collected my new GTI last week. Have to say I am really pleased with the drive in particular the standard suspension set up. All my fillings are still in place.

The 510 is the hardest thing to get to grips with. Dealer said he put the iPod cable in for me. Yet when I use my iPod USB cable to plug into the dealer supplied cable the screen reads “not recognized” help here appreciated

Thanks, was a bit worried I had made the wrong choice but have to say I am happy with them. They look far better in real life than in the picture

You don't need 2 cables to run your ipod.
You should have received 2 cables as pictured below

A USB ended cable and an ipod ended cable.

Plugging your ipod into the USB ended cable won't work like you have discovered.

You plug it straight into the ipod ended cable.

Loving the wheels by the way. Very nice

Congratulations.
Simply bloody beautiful.
They are the best wheels I have seen on a black GTi.
What a lovely car with all those extras. Am a bit jealous.
Wish I had ordered Xenons and the Dynaudio, though the sound from the standard set-up is fine for me for now. That's what I keep telling myself!
Enjoy 'Black Beauty'.

The wheels look good, were they an option from VW? I don't recall seeing them as a choice.
Mud flaps don't look too bad either, especially as the car is black; mine's carbon grey so not too much difference, might change my mind and have some fitted [Was a bit worried about how they would change the appearance of the car overall  :undecided:]

Remember you get the lead free of charge as it should have come with the car.

Any problems just quote them this Bulletin number.

"Good Morning,

Thank you for your recent email.

A multi device interface (MDI) is fitted to the new Golf as standard, allowing customers to connect USB players or iPods to the radio. Users can access menus, playlists and track details on both the radio screen and the

The USB connection cable is fitted to the vehicle during production and cannot be exchanged or removed during the process. Volkswagen UK will also be supplying customers with an iPod cable as standard to improve customer satisfaction on delivery.

The iPod cable (part number 000 051 446 C) must be ordered by the Retailer and put in the vehicle before delivery, if your Retailer is unaware of this process please refer them to Volkswagen Desktop Bulletin - 0991-08

I hope this information helps"

The wheels came from the Golf accessory brochure  called “Vision” will keep the original 17’s and put winter tyres on them.
Was impressed with the dealer Arnold Clark Greenock. Everything went to plan including the delivery date. The GTI was set up with the coming home and leaving lights. Radio stations were also programmed in though my excitement of picking the car up made me forget about the iPod connection.  The manager came out and presented a nice framed painting with a certificate of originality which was a nice touch. Salesman went through the whole operation of the car.

Very impressed with the car , the best handling car I have had since the mark 2 GTI. It feels a quali

Got the car mats online from autostyle priced £60.00. They are much thicker than the mats that come with the GTI and fit perfectly

Nice.

Some of the older iPods won't work with the 310 or 510. It looks like you have the correct lead as it wouldn't fit the iPod otherwise. Not sure exactly which model iPods work and which don't just that some old ones don't.

You should get one iPod cable (only fits iPods) and one USB for Walkmans or memory sticks.

If you are trying to connect an iPod via a USB to the supplied USB cable that won't work either, you need the specifc iPod cable.(plugs straight into the iPod).

Nice.

Some of the older iPods won't work with the 310 or 510.

How old are you talking?
My daughters video ipod which I believe was out not long after the 2nd generation works fine. Or at least it plays music, however it stutters like the rest of them. I think all the ipods have had the same proprietary connector so they should all work.

Anyway I'll leave that for a different thread as the spotlight is being taken off of Captain Sensibles fantastic car

EDIT: Yeah you are quite correct. The 1st (2001) and 2nd (2002) generation used a 3.5mm jack. It wasn't until the 3rd gen (2003) that they used the dock connector.

Nice looking car there Captain - I was just wondering what the fit of your rear mudflaps was like -do
they hug the contour of the bumper all the way to the top with no gaps ? -on mine there is a gap of
about 2 or 3mm from the top of the flap to about 75mm down -i.e. roughly the height of the rear reflectors - I definitely have the right ones,(the ordinary MK6 is a diffferent part no.) and took ages to fit them (took the wheels off),but still couldn't get them to sit properly -did your dealer fit them ?
-maybe there is a trick they use to get them to fit snugly -from your rear shot of the car they do seem to be a good fit.Just wondering if it's just me that has this problem. Many thanks.

Nice car, I like the Vision alloys not so sure about the mudflaps though, kind of makes it look a bit like an ordinary golf or an old mans car (no offense to any old men) but they wouldn't go with my wee black stealth machine
