Title: What mods/upgrades have you done to your mk6's ?
Post by: VWKev on 27 April 2010, 09:48: Just wondering what you all have had done to your cars so far and what you thought of them.

LED's - Love them, of course you cant see them when driving but I know what they look like and they look fab.

Fiscon Bluetooth - Aint installed it yet, will be done this weekend.

Footrest - OSIR have made a top quality footrest, makes it look a bit nicer down there too.

Small mods : GTI seat badge and new Tax disc holder.

Think thats it so far, gonna get mats soon too.

1) 2 Gallon of waxoyl and still going :evil:
2) Tax disc holder, removal of dealer back window sticker, local dealer number plates coming soon so non of the supply dealers info on the car.
3) VW rubber front floor matts. Practical reasons and they fit and don't move.
4) Private plate coming in next couple months.
5) Must sort the seat badges.

Me? I've got the seat inserts and the footrest thingy, a black bumper protector (stops the dogs claws scratching the paint) and a Golf GTI third brake light decal.

May go for the leds when Mr P has another forum buy going but will need a kind soul to fit them for me.

I had the dynaudio at full blast today belting out Queens greatest hits, now that is an awesome piece of kit I'd recommend any one who hasn't got it to see about a retrofit or something akin to it :grin:

Nope, I still have at least £5k in my pocket against the same spec new Golf R.

And IMHO have something that out performs, handles and stops a Golf R in most situations :tongue:

But putting a K04 turbo on the GTI's TSI engine and making it a 350bhp car with a diff etc, now your talking :evil:

Nope, only installed the TBE yesterday and the map still needs some development before it goes on the Dyno.

It feels a little quicker than my ED30 did at stage 1.

In addition to my earlier post...

Painted the front splitter black (metallic finish perfectly matches the plastic lower grill of the GTI :smiley:)
just ordered a carbonio air intake system. So will be getting that in as soon as it arrives.

It may not be to everyone's taste but I do quite like it. And if your lucky am1w there will be pics up tomorrow night. :wink:

this guy clearly has too much money, too much for any golf- i think he should of bought something a bit pricier, maybe a porsche? OR maybe he is entering the touring car championship :laugh:

I disagree his fun factor is much higher...there is no comparison when his car outperforms say a porsche....that unexpected is priceless.... :cool:

This is the front splitter. Sprayed with a nice Hammerite black. (came out metallic which I was chuffed to bits with) Has also lasted a good deal better than the OEM paint against stone chips (although this could just be because chips are not as noticeable on black colours)

My nice GTI badge - didn't fit the OEM plate perfectly but I think it looks ok. And of course my vinyl. Almost everyone that sees it thinks its real. :grin: It's not though - not that rich yet :cry:

Finally my 17 monzas... they fill the arches better visually (could be they blend with the tyre) and also it brings all the black details out on my car such as the B - pillar (which I didn't realise was black till after I had my wheels done)

I tried to specify the Hill Hold function for my car in Dec 2009, but it was too late as my car was on BW2. Then I was told in BW4 my BW was not confirmed. Then suddenly it was BW9 which then became 7. I was advised not to change the spec as this might affect the BW. As at the time it was too much of a risk to specify Hill Hold again, I gave up!

Not that I can tell.
They are lighter than standard though, which may help...and ACC seems to cope pretty well.
The springs are good too...not harsh at all.

when i took mine to a paint supply place to match the colour they said that the alloys have just been painted a base colour :shocked: with no protection whatso ever, no laquer on them to protect from Uvs, brake dust etc, mine where very badly stone chipped showing like a yellowy primer and of course the kerbed one, :angry:
Bodyshop are now redoing them the same colour and putting a matt laquer over them for protection,
if i was you i would get them laquered before they start to chip etc :wink:
couldn't believe how bad they where until i took them off and had a closer look, for the money you pay for them you would of thought they had protection on :angry:
Good job i have the winter wheels to use while they sort this problem out,
pics to follow when all nice and new again :wink:

I assumed theyâ€™d be a nightmare with the finish and the spoke design.
I have a set of 18â€ BBS CHs in an Anthracite powder coat for my winter wheels, so the VWR wheels only have to last until the back end of the year, and Iâ€™ll be having them done the same finish.
Gloss powder coat is easier to look after than anything else.

12.55Kg for a single bare VWR wheel (19")
11.25Kg for a single bare BBS CH (18")

I measured 12.7Kg for a Ronal 18" Monza (shadow, II, whatever it's called)
Snoopy got 12Kg.

This means the Ronals are 5.83% heavier than the BBSs. It could also mean the Ronals are probably cheaper and that's what VW would have fitted!

PS: I read somewhere that the Monza Shadows were also called Monza IIs, so there is a possibility that mine may be BBSs.

Redrobin's wheels are both Mk5 BBS though, aren't they?

You do realise your talking about 0.7KG(~1.5Lbs) or less difference (either way) between your figures and the ones i quoted, and your talking bathroom scales not proper calibrated measuring scales.

Indeed so...
The accuracy of the scales could be called into play...but why would they read low for the VWR wheel and high for the 18" Monza?

I'm not going to argue the accuracy...all I can say is what I found, on the day, by weighing them one after the other, without moving my scales.

The warranty you talk about take a look at the conditions. For one (and theres lots of interesting clauses) its corrosion from inside out only.
Cars nowadays are built to a price and cost cut were they car, there are looked on as a white good by manufacturers.

Not if you put it on the outside of the box sections(that VW only prime on the outside).
VW only put waxoyl on the inside of the box sections, I wonder why they do that :wink:

You want to know another upside of waxoyling?
If you ever need to replace a component. Bottom ball joint, track rod end, damper, drop link, CV boot etc you can easily get the bolts loose as they have not rusted solid.

As an update to my mods... waited in all morning like a small boy waiting on the postman from UPS to come. Around 3pm he came. (looking strangely like a 'she') Anyway I opened up my box and in it was my Intake system. :smiley: :smiley: :smiley:

Spent the last wee while stripping out the OEM intake and installing the new one. I have noticed though that it sits quite loosley in the engine bay as there are no supports for the new system :huh: :sad:. Not to worry though as I cracked out some mecano bits and have rigged up a small support arm that goes into the OEM support brace for the OEM system. To make it look a bit better I've decided to spray it metallics black so it is disguised in the engine bay :cool:. It is drying the first coat just now (hence me on here). Once its had all it's coats and is on I'll get some photos up for you all to make fun of :grin:

I start reading a new thread and as soon i get to the crap that is getting posted ill just switch off and wander to the MK4/5, detailing section etc. I DONT WANT TO KNOW about someone's sexual preferences etc. Im just interested in VW's, that's what im here for!
