hello people
ive recently bought a 16v mk2 golf ,having bought it found out it stared life as an 8v its on a j plate (90spec) ive managed to get the right engine looms to convert it to a 16v fully (90spec) loom +missing items. i assumed it to be a 90 spec . my question is having searched ecp for cambelt/chain parts is, how can i tell if its definitely a kr or pl 16v engine ,as depending on the year for parts really its to make sure i order the correct parts in future for it, cam parts are same for both engines .the only diff i could tell between my other golf 16v (that i know is a kr was metering head cover had a hole for overrun cut off valve to attach to this one dont .hope this makes sence. thanks in advance . max

if its a UK one its unlikely to be a PL code, as above pics of what you have now would be best

Looks v.similar to my KR.

has kr isv and a wur so I'd agree. PL was the engien code for MK2 16v with a cat yeah, but this could have been removed. as i say tho, if this is a UK MK2 its very unlikely to be a PL
