Title: How to make a Mk6 GTI stop properly
Post by: SteveP on 23 April 2010, 22:36
Replace the miniature 312mm standard's in favour of something like this: -

AP Racing 6 pots with 2 piece 362mm Rotors up front: -

Not much room with the 18's

And for the rear to balance things out, some Mk5 Golf R32 Rears - 310mm Vented Discs and custom painted calipers to match the fronts

A mod I can highly recommend if your ever thinking of some track days or adding more power

I noticed them on your Helios' in the other thread  :nerd:
Only problem with uprating the brakes is that you have to make sure your spare wheel still fits!

Erm...you can always swap a back wheel on, and put the spare on the back?
I've had that problem on several cars previously. More hassle sure...but where there's a will, there's a way.

Who's the kit from Steve?
Any AP dealer?
Dare I ask the price?

I had to do that with my Civic Type R on its standard brakes!
Well... I would have, should I have got a puncture!

It's similar to the one AP list as a Big Brake Kit for the Mk5/Mk6 Golf, but this was put together by a guy I know (also known on a number of forums as DaveB1970) using a pair of 1000 mile used calipers.

Typical list price for a new kit would be around £1700

Hi Steve,
I've just got one of these brake setups.
I know this is a old thread and you may not remember, but did you use a spacer for this setup?
Also do you know any other wheels that fit these brakes?
