Title: Today was the day (not a GTi sorry)
Post by: ajmoir36 on 23 April 2010, 21:11
Well today was the day I collected my new Golf GTD.  Very pleased with it everything went smoothly thanks to Lee from VW, and my dad for getting it PDI'd and sorted out so quickly.  Paint finish is very good and the wing/door join problems actually very hard to spot.  It doesnt have the A-Pillar problem and the boot floor is pink is which black shiney hooks at the rear and pink hooks at the front.  The only issue is the dirt from the car park as its now plastered in dust.  And the fact that sometimes the RCD510 thinks the SD card is no longer present and eject and re-insert solved that.

6.2 miles nice.

The wheels are indeed dinky = cute = lovely = I love them too = fabulous with Tornado Red!
I would never abuse you or anyone for that matter, at least not intentionally. Please accept my sincere apologies if I was remiss with you in the past.
Now stop hurting my tender feelings. I have enough on my plate with the Wokshop Foreskin tomorrow at the dealership.
Sorry to hijack this thread ajmoir.
Love the GTD just as much as I love my GTi!
There, I said it Steve.
BTW p3asa, I'm on the vino at the present!

Thanks it brings a smile to my face and it does turn heads.  Its nice being sat at a roundabout with a passenger sitting in a corsa next to you just staring at the car.  (I wish i had one of those)

Gorgeous.

Wicked the noise in the cabin when you accelerate is very cool.  Much better than my mk5 GT Tdi 140 it just rattled.

Well it would have been even less as I know Lee drove it from the PDI centre to the showroom and that is just over a 1 mile too.

Very nice... I like the shot from down low!

Mine had 26 miles on it
I thought they might have had it out for a thrashing - but then I realised they had a Golf R demonstrator.
I asked why there were so many miles.  Aparently it was to test my retro-fitted cruise control... and then it failed, so they had to re-test it.

It had to be driven to and from from Inchcape Telford to the Eurochem place in Welshpool for it to be Toughsealed and then from Telford to London. I could have picked it up, but was both lazy and busy. More of the former! A transporter delivery would have cost £250, so I impolitely declined!

LOvely car there, congrats! The great thing about the GTD is the fact that you don't have to have Monza wheels  I'm not much of a fan of the non-red/chrome piping on the grill, however.

Yeah not sure what a red car would look like with the red piping on the grill.  The chrome sort of breaks up the colour on the front.  Have debadged the back and it looks well good, not sure how to get the one off the front.  As I am not so keen on it either.

Probably gonna get crucified for saying this, but prefer look of that over a GTI. Like others, not a fan of Monzas or the red detailing.

Oh man...
back to topic.

79 miles on the clock and loving every minute.  It can return over 50mpg with only that many miles on it too.  I have done it.  But the pedal keeps getting pushed, gotta run the engine in a bit.     The wing mirror dipping when reverse parking is cool, at least its worth it once if it stops that accidental scuff.  I didn't realise too if you press and hold the boot button it pops the boot (mk5 didn't do this), but unfortunatly it doesn't spring open.  I have read all the way to page 200 of the manual still got another 100 odd pages to go.  The dynaudio has definetly got better with time and loosened up alot.  It still turns heads and really rolls along the road when you can't be bothered to motor.  Seems to free wheel in gear much farther than the mk5 did too.  The fuel guage has just started to move and the range is increasing to 450 ish at the mo.  The oil takes longer than you would think before it gets to operating temp.

But most importantly it makes me smile - and thats what a car should do.

Motor on everybody.

Passenger side about 1inch long, really hard to see.  Probably needs the wheel arch liner off as its in the side of the wing. Will take pic later if it can be seen.

They usually can get to these things with their tools without removing any trim. However, if there is a double skin behind the depression, then this would not be possible. One question, is this depression above or below the crease line?

Just use of the speakers crank them up, various tunes.  The bass just seems to be getting stronger, actually had to turn the bass down slightly in the treble-mid-bass control.

I know these are difficult to photograph. Get a recommended guy in to look at it and fix it. However, I don't think you should consider the re-spray route.

No broken paint (barley noticable), theres no way it will be sprayed.  Its two days old and a used car - NOW.  I expect it is the first of many dents to be placed in it by others over the years. Ho hum.

It could have happened when transported from Germany or for so many other reasons. You can only see it when it catches the light in certain ways. Looks worse in the shade!

I noticed a dent in my bonnet about a week after taking delivery, took it back to the stealers and they got chipsaway to sort it, spot on job

there was no way it could of been done by anybody except during production cos it was an upward dent and when you looked under the bonnet it was behind one of the strenthener bars, so no issues or arguments for them to sort it

Same here. I found a dent a couple of days after picking up the car which couldn't have happened with me as I was with the car and it was only parked in my drive. In the picture it looks massive and unmissable but in reality it could hardly be seen especially with a bit of dirt on the car.
The dealer had no problems fixing it FOC. Get on the phone to them.

The wing dint.
Theres no strengthener behind the wing as such only a foam block its all single skin easy to get at and knock out.

I have got a very, very small depression just above the crese line along the middle of the nearside wing. Have had 2 dent removal men look at it and try and remove it. They cannot as there is a strengthner there and they cannot get to it either from the top or through the wheelarch. So there are places where this cannot be done!
'The Dentman' reduced the depression by 50% but the other guy would not even attempt to do anything. It took 'The Dentman' nearly 45 mins to acheive this.

What strengthener and creese line do you meen? have a look at
http://www.golfgtiforum.co.uk/index.php?topic=149545.110
and let me know which one.
Knocking a dint out of a creese thats not easy to get it 100% most won't attempt it as it will never be right.
I never ment any could be removed to 100% thats just stupid. As the bit next to the door thats U shaped would be hard without wing removal.

Snoops: It is on the front wing above the crease line which runs along it. Behind the weeny depression is a strengthner with some glue inside. It is difficult to get to due to the very difficult angle narrow opening.
Not worried about it at all.

If its the creese line across the car i cannot see why as the wings reasonably open there as can be seen in my photos. Im confused why unless its near the door and in the U shape.

Agree with all the previous posters; the red and Vancouvers really go together well.

Gonna have to phone VW tomorrow.  Think I have my first fault sounds like the clutch bearing or gearbox is on its way out. 350 miles too.

Symptons:
Drive for over 20 miles, pull up and place gear stick in neutral release clutch.
You can here a quite loud whirr.
Depress clutch whirr no change.
Place in gear, whirr goes away.
Take out of gear and lift clutch back into neutral whirr reappears.
Whirr noise is most prominent in cabin.

There is no whirr first thing in the morning.
There was no whirr after 12 miles.

I wonder if they have sold my old car yet.

To say the least not impressed.  Lets just hope its as simple as a faulty clutch.
